1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT
Cooperative and observant while with 6th Div, 15th Regt. A ROKA EM (5th Div, 38th Regt, 2d Bn) captured by CCF, was turned over to NKA. Seemed intelligent, and information seems fairly reliable.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
While 4th Co was battling UN Forces 5 Mar 51, PW deserted his unit and surrendered to UN Forces 060800 Mar 51.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
2 Jan 51, captured by CCF unit at KAPPYONG.
6 Jan 51, turned over to NKA V Corps Replacement Regt where he was indoctrinated 25 days.
1 Feb 51, transferred to 6th Div Training Bn.
12 Feb 51, assigned to 6th Div, 15th Regt.
24 Feb 51, 15th Regt want to HASONG-NI (phonetic) (approx 24km NW of HAANHUNG-NI (DS2541) to attack UN Forces in that area. Heard 6th Div came to area surrounding HASONG-NI (phonetic).
4 Mar 51, 15the Regt CP was within HASONG-NI and bn were deployed in following manner: 1st Bn (approx 200 men) was 500 meters W of 15th Regt CP, 2d Bn (approx 200 men) was 500 meters W of 1st Bn, and 3d Bn (approx. 120 men) was a reserve unit deployed within Regt CP area.
2d Bn consisted of three infantry co (40-50 men per co) and a Mortar- HMG Co (40 men). Strength of 1st Bn was same as 2d, but 3d Bn was understrength and was a reserve unit.

b. Weapons:
Weapons Mortar - HMG Co were 2 x 82mm mortars (30 rd ea), 2 x 60mm mortars, 3 HMG (500 rd ea), and 2 LMG (US). Weapons in each inf co were: 1-2 LMG (300 rd ea), 1 BAR (300 rd ea), 12 PPsh SMG (300 rd ea), and 20 “Molotov Cocktail” antitank grenades. All men in the co were armed with rifles (100rd ea).

c. CCF:
21 Feb 51, observed 150 CCF troops travelling in vic 40km E of HASONG-NI (phonetic). Distinguished troops as Chinese by their language and heard from Plat Ldr that troops belonged to CCF 117th Div.

d. Other Units:
3 Mar 51, heard from Plat Ldr that 607th Unit was on 15th Regt east flank.

e. Clothing : All troops wore winter clothing.

f. Disease: Neither was nor heard of any contagious disease.

g. Food: Sufficient.

h. Morale: Low among troops.

i. 4th Phase Offensive: Heard from Bn and Co CO frequently in past month that 4th Phase Offensive would commence in two months. Heard units were to set up defensive positions and hold their lines until general offensive begins. Heard there were 3,000 NKA men training as pilots in MANCHURIA and 2 NKA regt training in an armored unit. The general offensive was to be supported by tanks, planes and artillery.

j. Attachment of CCF-NKA: CCF was used in replacing NKA units, but CCF and NKA units were never attached to on another.
