1. PERSONAL DATAILS:
NAME: Ho Tung Shen (何東生)

NATIONALITY: Chinese
PLACE AND DATE CAPTURED, SURRENDERED: Surrendered to 5th Cav Regt at Hill 201 (CS832556) 231200 Feb 51.
OCCUPATION: Farmer
EDUCATION: Primary School 2 yr

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW had 10 months service in CCF. Cooperative during interrogation. Information considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation. Evacuated through medical channels.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
42d Army with 40,000 men entered KOREA from CHIAN, MANCHURIA, 19 Oct 50. Crossed 38th Parallel 1 Jan 51 and arrived KAPYONG 6 Jan 51. 377th Regt advanced S and arrived 4 Km N of YANGPYONG 12 Jan 51. Here the Regt dug in and remained about 6 days. 18 Jan 51, the regt moved back to join the non-combatant sections located in the vic of KAPYONG. There the regt remained for about 2 weeks. Moved forward S to where it was originally 4 Km N of YANGPYONG. 15 Feb 51, engaged UN Forces here and PW heard that the 2d Bn deployed on the extreme front suffered the severest casualties and that the total casualties for the 1st, 2d, and 3d Bn numbered 200.
16 Feb 51, 377th Regt withdrew to vic of CHIPYONG-NI due to overwhelming UN pressure. The regt was reorganized here, and 4 days later moved eastward and arrived Hill 201 (CS832556). 230800 Feb 51, after engaging UN Forces, the regiment withdrew. PW did not know destination of the regt upon its withdrawal. 231200 Feb 51, at (CS832556) PW remained in his foxhole and surrendered to 5th Cav Regt when it captured the hill.

b. Organization and Strength
At present 126th Div strength is 3,000. Heard from a wounded soldier of 125th Div that his unit suffered heavy casualties.
377th Regt strength is 1000 men. 2d Bn is estimated at 200 men.
42d Army is composed of 124th, 125th and the 126th Div. 126th Div is composed of 376th, 377th and the 378th Regt, mt gun battery and security co.
377th Regt is composed of 3 rifle bn and two 82mm mortar co. 2d Bn is composed of 4th, 5th, and 6th rifle companies and HMG co.

c. Deployment of PW Own Unit
377th Regt CP was approx 4 km NE of TOKCHONG-NI. Heard from the Co CO that the 376th Regt was not far away.

d. Status of Arms, Ammo and Equipment

e. Status of Food and Clothing
At present the food is being procured locally but not sufficient for the bn needs. Troops are being fed on the average of twice daily.
Heard his Co CO state that 2 railroad regt were committed to the repair of the RR line between SINUIJU and PYONGYANG and that as soon as repairs were completed, supplies will be brought from MANCHURIA.
20 Jan 51, in the vicinity of KAPYONG, troops of the regt received received a pair of fur–lined shoes each.

f. Mission and Intentions
Mission of the CCF in KOREA, PW was told, was to resist the Americans and South Koreans. 42d Army was one of the weakest units of the CCF in KOREA. 42d Army was one of the weakest units of the CCF in KOREA. For this reason the army had never been on the offensive but always on the defensive or committed to reserve in the rear.

g. Replacements:
20 Jan 21, heard from his Co CO that 300,000 replacements plus 2 armies would come from MANCHURIA. Has not yet seen any.

h. Frostbite & Malnutrition
10% of the 4th Co were suffering from frostbite and almost everyone was suffering from malnutrition.
