1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
During interrogation, PW seemed passive and evasive; did not appear deliberately misleading or impertinent, but rather an attitude of disinterest. Answered all deliberately directed questions.
The information should be assessed accordingly.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Inducted into CNA 6th Army in Jul 37 at SHENYANG (奉天).
Received half-month of NCO course at SHENYANG. Placed into 32d Army Sep 46 at TIENCHIN (天津).
32d Army surrended to CCF troops at HAINAN Island Apr 49.
Received 3 months of indoctrination at HAINAN Island as PW.
Jul 49 at HAINAN Island, placed into 4th Sqd, 2d Plat, 6th Co, 2d Bn, 37th Regt, 113th Division, 38th Army. Received no training.
38th Army left HAINAN Island Feb 50 by boat and, reaching the mainland, marched to KAIYUAN (開原), arriving Jul 50.
Cultivated land for 2 months then the Army left KAIYUAN Sep 50 by train and arrived near the YALU River Sep 50.
Crossed YALU River Sep 50 and entered KOREA. After entering combat on four occasions, and having advanced and retreated, 113th Division of the 38th Army arrived at YANGP'YONG area Feb 51.
PW voluntarily surrendered to UN troops 1 Mar 51.

The 113th Division and it's 3 Regiments were in vicinity of YANGP'YONG (CS6749).

38th Army: 112th, 113th, 114th Divisions, Arty Bn, Engineer Bn, Signal Bn.
113th Division: 3 Rifle Regiments (37th, others unknown), Infantry Gun Company (hearsay), 60mm Mortar Co.
37th Regiment: 1st, 2d, 3d Rifle Battalions (Hearsay: Mountain Gun Plat), Recon Plat, Signal Plat.
2d Battalion: 4th, 5th, 6th Rifle Companies, HMG Company, Signal Sqd, Recon Sqd.
6th Company: 1st, 2d, 3d Rifle Plat, HMG Plat.

Heard at YANGP'YONG Feb 51 20,000 replacements to arrive from CHINA to reinforce CCF Armies low in personnel.

f. Food, Ammo and other Supplies
No ammo received in KOREA. Captured supplies only source of ammo.
Received a pair of shoes Jan 51 after crossing the 38th Parallel.
Food procured from villages.

g. Signal
Platoon - Company: Runners
Company - Battalion - Regiment - Division: Telephones
At times, CCF utilized Korean farmers as runners from regiment to Division. Korean interpreter gave the instructions.

h. Morale and Battle Effectiveness
Morale low because they lacked food and warm clothing.


i. UN PW
Saw over 100 US PW Dec 50 north of 38th Parallel. Heard that they were to be taken to CHINA.

j. Medical
No epidemic in Company.
No immunization or counter-measures received by CCF troops since they came to KOREA.
4 men in Company who suffered frostbitten feet were sent to the rear. No medicines were applied.

k. Psychological Warfare
Voluntarily surrendered because he was disgusted with living in fox holes.
Saw UN leaflets Feb 51 in YANGP'YONG area.
The leaflets stated: "Chinese friends, why do you fight against the US when they were your friends in the Second World War?" A cartoon showing a doctor giving treatment to PW.
PW believed the leaflets.
Did not know feeling of others since forbidden to discuss leaflets.
