1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was a medical case. Cooperative and answered freely during interrogation. Interrogation was discontinued because PW was reacting to sedatives.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Organization and Strength:
PW a member of the 42d Army composed of 124th, 125th, 126th Div and an arty regt. Original strength of the 124th Div was 12,000. At present they have approx 7,000. Most of the losses were sustained through arty bombardment.
124th Div composed of the 370th, 371st, 372d Regt and arty Bn. 370th Regt present strength approx 2,000 men. 370th Regt composed of the 1st, 2d, 3d Bn and Ind mortar company. 2d Bn present strength approx 400 men, and composed of the 4th, 5th, 6th Companies and Ind Heavy Weapons Company.
6th Company’s present strength approx 90 men and composed of the 1st, 2d, 3d and Mortar Platoon. Present strength of the 1st Plat is 16 men.

b. Deployment of Other Units:
As of 27 Feb 51, the 125th Div was deployed NE of YONGDU-RI and the 126th Div was deployed NW of YONGDU-RI.
27 Feb 51, heard from the company political officer that the 126th Div has retreated but did not state how far.

d. Status of Arms and Ammunition:
In PW company there were 3x60mm mortars with approx 30 rounds of ammo each, 9 LMG with approx 900 rounds of ammo each, 40 rifles (there were 9 carbines the rest being M-1 rifles with approx 100 rounds of ammo each. Besides these, each man carried 5 handgrenades and 1 anti-tank explosive.

e. Missions and Intentions:
27 Feb 51, the assistant regt CO assembled the 6th Company and told them that the mission of the 42d Army was to hold their present position for 20 days commencing 20 Feb 51. At present they could not launch an offensive because their weapons are inferior and that there are 10 US Div, 1 British Brigade, and 2 French Battalions concentrated SW of their position. During this 20 days period 1 army group, consisting of 3 armies, of the 4th Field Army and 1 army group of the 3d Field Army were to relieve them. When these 2 army groups arrive they will make a wide flanking movement to the rear of the UN forces. This drive was to be supported, according to the officer, by 3000 airplanes that were to arrive from CHINA. Effective air cover of the skies over South KOREA was to be maintained by the airplanes in an effort to deny its use to UN Air.

f. Replacements of Personnel:
20 Feb 51, heard from a soldier who came from the rear after being released from a hospital, that o/a 14 Feb 51 north of CHORWON, observed approx 800 replacements marching in a southerly direction.

g. Code Numbers:
Heard from the company political officer that the code for the 42d Army and the attached Arty Regt was known as the 71. Code number of the 124th Div and the attached Arty Regt was 81. Code number of the 370th Regt and the attached Arty Btry was 101.
