1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative during interrogation. Duetto lack of education, reliability is low.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Volunteered in the CNA in 47 and was captured by CCF at NE CHINA in Sep 49, and was assigned to the 351st Regt after capture. Heard the entire 39th Army crossed the YALU River from ANTUNG o/a Oct 50.
After 4 days of engaging UN Forces Regt retreated o/a 15 Feb 51. At that time PW deserted his regt and after hiding in a civilian home for 6 days surrendered to the ROK 6th Div, 7th Regt, 1st Bn at (DS050468)

b. Organization and Strength (Present):
39th Army composed of the 115th, 116th, and 117th Div. 117th Div composed of 351st, and two other Regt and Recon Plat, Litter Bearer Unit and Arty Bn. Original strength was more than 8000 men. Present is 4250 men. 351st Regt composed of the 1st, 2d, and 3d Bns. Litter Unit, Signal Plat, Recon Plat and Arty Btry. Original strength was a little over 2500 men. Present is 1150 men.

c. Deployment of PW Own Unit:
PW was left in the rear about 8 Km from Regt CP, therefore only knows that the 3 Bn were deployed in the front.

e. Status of Food and Clothing:
351st Regt received bean and rice powder rations, 1 pr of trousers per man o/a the first part of Jan 51 and about 1 week later received 1 pair of cotton shoes and 1 towel per man. Supplies were received at the same location near the 38th parallel during a 28 days rest period. 351st Regt has 8 trucks. They cover these vehicles with rice straw and branches during daylight hours.

f. Mission and Intentions:
heard Regt CO remark that their mission was to defend the hill if possible and the bn are permitted to retreat if the situation necessitates.

g. Personalities:
CHONG Yee (張義), Political Leader

h. Physical Condition of Troops:
351st Regt has about 7-8% suffering from frostbite and others from colds.

i. Propaganda and/or Surrender Leaflets:
Saw Surrender leaflets about 5 times but did not hear plane broadcast. Unable to read the leaflets himself but he was able to learn that most of his friends believed in the leaflets.
