1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Appeared in good physical condition. Was a clothing salesman prior to entering CCF. Surrendered voluntarily when his unit retreated due to heavy artillery fire. Cooperative and of average intelligence. Information is limited but considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization:
38th Army composed of 112th, 113th, 114th Div, Engr Bn, Guard Bn, and I & R Communications Bn.
114th Div composed of 340th, 341st, and 342d Regt.
Each Regt had 3 Rifle Bn, Engr Plat, Guard Plat, I & R, Communications Plat, and Litter Bearer Plat.
Each Bn had 3 Rifle Co and a HMG Co.

His Co suffered 70 casualties to date and majority of these were caused by artillery shelling.

10 Feb 51, heard from Co CO that 3d Bn was to defend vic CS482452.

e. Disposition:
3d Bn was deployed on a hill vic CS482452.

f. Personalities:
TIEN, Kuwang-ju (田光■), CO, 3d Bn, 340th Regt, 114th Div

g. Morale:
Morale of unit was extremely low because of the following reasons:
(1) Extreme shortage of food, clothing and equipment.
(2) Fear of air strikes and artillery shelling.

h. Chronology:
PW volunteered for CCF 21 Aug 50, at HUNAN (湖南) and assigned to his present unit. 26 Oct 50, 38th Army crossed YALU River at CHIAN (輯安) and arrived TOKCH’ON (BV6904) Dec 50. Unit then marched to UIJONGBU (CS2778) arriving Jan 51. Crossed HAN River 4 Feb 51 and arrived vicinity CS485457 12 Feb 51. 16 Feb 51, his unit was subjected to UN artillery fire and started to withdraw, at which time PW voluntarily surrendered to UN forces.

i. Food and Ammo Supply:
Food was procured locally but was always insufficient. Unit received four issues of ammo since coming to KOREA. Total issue of ammo amounted to approx 500 rd. There were approx 40 rd of ammo for each 81mm mortar, and 40 rd for each 60mm mortar as of 15 Feb 51.

j. UN PW:
15 Jan 51, observed approx 13 US PW marching northward in vic UIJONGBU (CS2778).

k. Medical:
No immunizations were received since coming to KOREA. No knowledge of typhus cases in his unit.

4. REMARKS:
PW was previously processed by 25th IPW Team.
