These troops appeared to be in positions on high ground.

d. Dispositions of adjacent units:
Heard 16 Feb 51 that elements of 39th Army arrived vic of Hq 38th Army. (An earlies interrogation by Regt IPW indicates that PW stated 39th Army was relieving 38th Army. PW states that such is not the case; that there must have been a misunderstanding during previous interrogation.) Heard 1 Feb 51 from officer that 40th, 41st, and 42d CCF armies were in combat to the E. 18 Feb 51 he talked with about 10 soldiers from 26th CCF Army; that they had just arrived from MANCHURIA. These troops were wearing the standard CCF hand sewn padded uniforms of a light green color with jackets that buttoned down the middle. These troops wore winter caps with earflaps and a visor. PW states 38 and 39 Army troops are issued NKA winter uniforms. Heard 18 Feb 51 from an officer that 26th CCF army was relieving the 38th Army.

Approximately 12 of every plat of the Eng Co have rifles. All troops carry 1 hand grenade per man. The Mountain Artillery Bn originally had 12 mountain artillery pieces, of a calibre slightly larger than that of a 60mm mortar. These pieces were pulled by two horses. PW believes all have been destroyed by UK arty and air.

Morale of the troops was very low due to shortage of food, lack of adequate clothing and their constant desire to return to CHINA. Many troops desire to surrender due to the extreme hardships they are encountering.
