1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW cooperative and reliability good.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
10 May 49 - Conscripted at HANYAN, CHINA, and assigned to HANYAN Bn (strength 400). Performed guard duty.
9 Nov 50 - Bn arr RYOYAN, MANCHURIA by rail. Bn integrated into replacement Regt together with other bn from other provinces. Troops trained by marching and climbing mountains.
6 Jan 51 - Replacement Regt dep RYOYAN by rail.
8 Jan 51 - Regt arr SINUIJU
15 Jan 51 - Arr P’YONGYANG on foot.
4 Feb 51 - Replacement Regt integrated into 120th Div.
13 Feb 51 - PW captured after ambush.

b. Organization, Strength & Weapons:

c. Casualties:
7-8 men of Repl Regt KIA and approx 80 deserted while enroute to join 120th Div.

d. Supplies:
No supplies of ammo or clothing since entering KOREA.

e. Replacements:
When a div in KOREA needed replacements, it was necessary for a Div Staff Officer to return to MANCHURIA to obtain such personnel.
Replacements brought to KOREA did not bring extra ammo or clothing because they were told that US weapons and ammo were plentiful at the front.

f. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
While enroute to KOREA, the Repl Regt were given indoctrination lectures on 2 occasions. Text as follows:
“The US is the aggressor of this Korean conflict, therefore, we must help the NKA, to safeguard the future security of MANCHURIA against any aggression planned by the US.
The situation is well in our hands, we are winning the war, and when we reach out destination you will see that we have an abundance of food, weapons, and ammo.
An effort on your part in this war will enable us to obtain easy victory against the Americans, who give up very easily.
Since the UN have discovered of our 3 months rest period, beginning Jan 51, we have shortened it to one month.
No PW will be abused or mistreated.”
