2. ASSESSMENT:
PW cooperative, spoke freely. Reliability - Good

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
19 Sep 50 - Entered KOREA through CHIAN, MANCHURIA. Passed through KANGGYE, CHORWON (CT 4034), CHUNCHON (CS 8893), CHONGPYONG NI (CS 6177) to vicinity of the HAN River.
O/a 18 Jan 51 - Arr KAPYON (W of SOCHONG NI CS 7478).
10 Feb 51 - 42d Army arr YANGPYONG (CS 6749).
12 Feb 51 - 126th Div dep YANGPYONG and headed towards CHIPYONG NI (CS 8048). Only the 376th Regt committed to battle.
14 Feb 51 - Captured.

b. Former Unit
Former Unit - CCF 170th Div, 508th Regt, 3rd Bn, 8th Co. The 170th Div was newly organized in Mar 49 at CHINCHOU, MANCHURIA as a Border Gd Unit of the Manchurian Military District. In Aug 50, this Div was designated as the litter bearer unit and the only wpn in the Div was one type 38 rifle per Sqd leader. The reason is believed to be because all troops in Div except the officers were former members of the CNA. Div entered KOREA with the 42nd Army in Sep 50 and followed the 42nd Army all the way. 19 Feb 51, the 170th division was deactivated and all its personnel asgd to various Div of the 42nd Army. The 3rd Bn of the 508th Regt (300 men) was asgd to the 126th Div. PW with 39 others asgd to the 6th Co, 2nd Bn, 376th Regt. After being asgd to the 376th Regt, a few received type 38 rifles and carbines at KAPYON. Original strength of the 3rd Bn, 508th Regt was 400-450 men. Casualties - mostly frostbite.

124th Div, 125th Div, 126th Div (376th Regt, 377th Regt, and 378th Regt) and 170th Ind Div(508th Regt, 509th Regt, 510th Regt).

f. Supply
In lade Dec 50 near CHORWON, every man in the 42d Army received a new pair of boots (fur lined leather service boots) or black low cut canvas shoes. Also received ammo for type 38 rifles and HMG. M-1 rifles and carbines with ammo were issued at KAPYON.

g. Replacements
O/a 18 Jan 51, many officers from the 126th Div depd for MANCHURIA to get replacements. Reason for sending officers is to thoroughly indoctrinate the replacements throughout the trip and have the men ready for combat upon arrival.

h. Intention
12 Feb 51, 376th Regt was sent to vicinity CHIPYONG NI to stop the advance of UN Forces towards YONGDURI.

i. Other Units
Heard the 38th, 39th, 40th and 42d Armies were in the YANGPYONG area.

j. CCF
O/a 16 Jan 51, heard from Co officers that all CCF units were starting on a 3 mo rest period. During this time, troops were to rest, fix roads, and await replacements.

k. Psychological Warfare
Read surrender leaflets but afraid to surrender due to language barrier upon capture, and constant vigilance by Co CO and political officers. Broadcasts from airplanes sounded like Chinese but was not clear or understandable.
