2d Bn of 591st Regt ordered to defend KOKKYORI (DS 1045) also to set road blocks. 2d Bn left 197th Div CP which was located at KU■MAN-NI (CS 1348) 2218■■ Feb 51; 2d Bn arrived KOKKYORI 222109 Feb 51. Here 2d Bn engaged in firefight with US marines from 230600 to 231400 Feb 51 where PW was captured.

Not recommended for further interrogation. Cooperative, but information limited.

9 Feb 51 - 66th Corps set drive across 38th Parallel; met no resistance for 15 days. 7 horses KIA due to US air attacks at HONGCHON (DS 0271) 14 Feb 51.

14 Feb 51 - 197th Div CP located at HONGCHON.

15 Feb 51 - 591st Regt crossed HONGCHON-GANG (river S of HONGCH’ON) 1700 hrs took mountain trails headed South and arrived 2 small village (10 houses) at 160530 Feb 51.

16 Feb 51 - Concealed themselves in foxholes in mountains. 1700 hrs Regt returned to HONGCH’ON, taking main highway. Encountered UN here, set no road blocks.

17 Feb 51 - Arrived HONGCHON 0600 where Div CP located. Spent day in air raid shelters: 1700 headed South.

180600 Feb 51 - Arrived at mountain, slept there, traveled S during night.

220200 Feb 51 - 591st Regt including 1st, 2d and 3d Bn arrived KUMAN-NI (DS 1348), Regt CP located here.

221800 Feb 51 - 2d Bn of 591st Regt left KUMAN-NI; arrived KOKKYORI (DS 1045). Dug trenches; well concealed from air observation.

23 Feb 51 - US air bombing and strafing continued from 0600 to noon. Were unable to engage in firefight at that time because of surprise attack by US Marines. 1400, captured with 2 others while hiding in trench.

1st and 3d Bn of 591st Regt last assembled at KUMAN-NI (DS 1348) 22 Feb 51.

Excellent among officers, fair among soldiers due to hard march and lack of food.

Feared air attacks most, followed by arty barrage.

Officers and communistic party members were employed on forward points to direct the attack.
