FIELD REPORT (2 DIV LDI 0219) 26 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: WO, Sung Yong

2. ASSESSMENT:
Very cooperative and answered all questions freely. Wounded and separated from his unit 14 Feb 51; therefore no present tactical information. Information obtained seems fairly reliable.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
14 Feb 51, wounded when his unit engaged UN Forces vic of SABAU (DS2820). Unit defeated and retreated but PW left behind. Stayed in vic until captured by UN patrol 26 Feb 51.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
2 Feb 51, 12th Div departed HOENGSONG with mission of capturing ANDONG but Div plans were disrupted when confronted by UN Forces vic of SABAU (DS2820). While on the move, observed elements of 6th and 7th Div spearheading attack while 12th Div was being used in mopping up stragglers in back of the two Div.
2 Feb 51, heard from political assistant Co Cmdr that NKA V Corps and CCF 34th and 66th Armies were to attack and captured ANDONG and NAKTONG River area. After completing such mission, three Corps were to harass UN rear position with Guerrilla tactics. 26 Jan 51 heard from Political ass`t Co Cmdr that 4th phase of operation would commence after NKA V Corps and CCF 34th and 66th Armies successfully occupied and started Guerrilla warfare.
12th Div 5,000 strong comprised of 1st, 2d and 3d Regt (1500 men per Regt). Div retreated northward from SABAU.
Weapons in 1st Regt, 2d Bn were: 3 x 82mm mortars (15 rd per), 2 x 60mm mortars (50-60 rd per), 3 HMG (1- US, 2 Maxim) 6000 rd per, 2 LMG per Plat (2000 rd per), 30 PPSH SMG per Co (400 rd per) and infantry armed with Russian rifles (200 rd per), US M-1 rifles (ammo unk) and US Carbines. 26 Jan 51, 12th Div received large quantities of ammo during rest period. Ammo transported by trucks.

b. Clothing:
All troops wore winter clothing.

c. Disease:
Neither saw nor heard of any.

d. Food:
Troops ate only one meal per day when in combat.

e. Morale:
Morale high among troops for they considered 12th Div as one of the best in NKA.
