2. ASSESSMENT:
PW in good physical condition at time of interrogation. A student prior to entering military service with CNA. Graduated the Motor Transportation School conducted by US Army at RAMGHAR, INDIA 44-45. Deserted unit 10 Feb 51, at PIAM-NI (CS163359) and surrendered to 29th BIB 20 Feb 51. Very cooperative and intelligent. Information obtained considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization, Strength and Equipment:
1st Independent Transportation Regt composed of 3 Bn, 3 Co per Bn. 1st and 2d Bn presently with 13th Army Group in KOREA and 3d Bn believed at ANTUNG.

The 1st Bn had 150 trucks in Nov 50 but present number unk. Plat had 16 trucks in Nov 50 but at present have only 7 which are of US, Japanese and Russian manufacture. Trucks are old models and in poor operating condition. Unit also had mules, oxen and carts.

b. Disposition:
Heard that 1st Transportation Regt CP located vic IMJIN River. Heard from a friend a month ago that 38th, 39th and 40th CCF Armies were withdrawing to vic UIJONGBU (CS2778).
c. Unit Assignment:
Unit assigned to transport supplies and ammo from point 2-4 km S of IMJIN River to vic PIAM-NI (CS168859). Plat stationed at PIAM-NI and supply runs made once every three to six days depending upon intensity of night air attacks.

d. Personalities:
HUANG, Yen-chih (黃■■), Lt Col, CO, 1st Ind Trans Regt
LIU, Pao-kuang (劉■光), Maj, 1st Bn CO, 1st Ind Trans Regt.

e. Morale:
Morale of troops especially former CNA was very low. Many had intentions of surrendering.

f. Chronology:
A Student prior to entering military service with CNA, 1 Aug 43. Served six years with CKA 205th Div. 1st Lt in CNA at time of capture by CCF in Jan 49. Received three months of communist indoctrination in PEIPING, and upon completion of training assigned present unit. 8 Nov 50, crossed YALU River CHANG■IENHO-KOU (XE5574) on vehicles and proceeded to SAKCHU (XE7373) arriving 10 Nov 50. Unit proceeded southward and arrived vic PIAM-NI (CS168359) 20 Jan 51. Unit engaged in transporting supplies from vic 2-4 km S of IMJIN to PIAM-NI. 10 Feb 51, deserted unit and headed southward and arriving at CS4652, surrendered to elements of 29th BIS 20 Feb 51.

g. Food and Ammo Supplies:
There was extreme shortage of supplies. Food consisted mainly of rice and grains. Majority of food procured locally. Ammo was insufficient and he did not transport any large quantities.

k. Psychological Warfare:
Read UN leaflets. 80% of men read leaflets and intended to surrender but did not have opportunity to do so. If men caught with UN leaflets, they are executed.

I. UN PW:
Observed 10 US PJ, 20 Jan 51, being marched northward in vic UIJONGBU (CS2778).

j. Medical:
Did not receive any immunizations since coming to KOREA. Influenza was most common disease in unit.

k. Effectiveness of Night Bombing:
Had not experienced night air attacks. Air activities disrupt transportation of supplies.
l. Armor, Engr and Chemical:
1. No knowledge of mushroom poison being used by CCF troops in KOREA.
2. Unit never issued gas masks and did not receive any type of gas training.
3. No knowledge of chemical grenades.
4. No knowledge of any energy-giving material used by the CCF.

4. REMARKS:
Previously interrogated by 25th IPW Team. Incorporating 25th LDI, unnumbered, dtd 20 Feb 51.
