ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 3866　8 March 1951

FIELD REPORT (IV CORPS MIDI 0295)　19 February 1951

Cooperative during interrogation. Information believed reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

Drafted into CNA in 47, and later conscripted into CCF Sep 49 in NE CHINA.

374th Regt, crossed the YALU River at MANPOJIN 20 Oct 50. Marched southeast and crossed 38th parallel 1 Jan 51. Arrived KOPYONG where it rested for 20 days and obtained food from the area.

6 Feb 51, the regt arrived ■A■DONGWON-NI (CS915636). Continued SE and arrived Hill 222 12 Feb 51.

PW was captured in a village 1 km NE of Hill 222.

The 42d Army composed of 124th, 125th, and 126th Div.

125th Div had 373th, 374th, and 375th Regt.

374th Regt had the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn. The 3rd Bn had the 7th, 8th, 9th, and a HMG Co. The Rifle Co each had 3 rifle plat and a 60mm mortar plat. The HMG Co had 3 HMG plat and 1 82mm mortar plat.

The division had attached to it an engineer bn, arty bn, a medical bn, and a recon plat. Attached to Regt were an engineer co, security co, medical co, and recon plat. The present regt strength is 1500 men. The bn strength was 230 men prior to capture.

The 3rd Bn had the following ammo and arms prior to capture:

Did not receive food from the rear. All food obtained were from nearby villages. Clothing was received in CHINA only. PW received 2 pairs of shoes 14 Feb 51.

Heard the 3rd Bn was to defend the hill on which it was deployed.

The troops’s heath was very poor. Heard there were more than ten TB cases, while 1/3 of the men suffered from frostbites.

Saw about 30 tanks at CHORWON Dec 50. One tank was destroyed by UN air action at that location. They lost about 30 to 40 men in each air attack.

He saw surrender leaflets and heard plane broadcasts clearly. PW believed majority of the troops are willing to surrender. The political leader told them the UN forces will not keep their promises.
