1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Very cooperative. Reliability - Good

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
2 Jan 51 - Source captured by CCF at KAPYONG.
14 Jan 51 - Turned over to 12th Div Hq at HACHON and assigned to 2nd Regt, Med Unit as aidman and litter bearer. Received no wpn.
8 Feb 51 - 12th Div departed HACHON on foot.
11 Feb 51 - Arrived 8 km N of HOENGSONG.
13 Feb 51 - 12th Div departed above area.
15 Feb 51 - Arrived SANGARI and immediately engaged by UN troops. While enroute, source observed NKA 7th Div regrouping 20 km N of SANGA RI.
17 Feb 51 - 12th Div began withdrawing from SANGA RI. Source and 6 other former ROK escaped. Heard 12th Div was to withdraw to an area about 16 km NW of SANGA RI. Div was forced to withdraw due to heavy casualties. Later source located his former 36th ROK Regt near CHUNCHON NI and while enroute to ROK 5th Div Hq was apprehended by UN troops.

b. Organization, Strength, Weapons:
V Corps: 6th, 7th, 12th Div
12th Div: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Regt
2nd Regt: 3 Bn
Strength of 12th Div as of 15 Jan 51: 3,000-4,000

2nd Regt equipment included 2-3 x 60 mm mortars, 2-3 HMG, 2-3 LMG, US M-1 rifles, carbines, PPSH SMG and Russ rifles. Over 1/3 of entire small arms were US M-1 rifles and carbines.
Source estimates approx 200 former ROK were assigned to each Regt of 12th Div. These men were deserting daily. About 1/2 of the total 600 former ROK volunteered to fight against UN troops with arms. Remaining 1/2 were used as ammo bearers, litter bearers and engineer laborers for construction of bridges, etc. 12th Div received no replacements excepting ROK.

c. Supply:
Source frequently observed ammo being transported to Div Hq by ox carts, then carried by ammo bearers to lower echelons.

d. Intention:
Intention of V Corps was to capture and secure ANDONG. At ANDONG (if and when taken), 6th, 7th, and 12th Div of V Corps were to regroup, reorganize and rest there, to await the arrival of CCF mechanized units which were to support final push to PUSAN. Russian air support was also to be available.

e. Morale:
Morale was high due to the fact that they were recently informed of CCF mechanized units and Russian air support which were said to be available for their final push from ANDONG to PUSAN.

f. UN PW:
While at HACH’ON, o/a 8 Feb, source heard rumors that more than 300 US PW were taken near HOENGSONG (Rumor was proudly spread among troops).

g. Other Units:
19 Feb 51 - Observed elements of 7th Div about 4 km N of SANGARI. Also observed elements of 6th Div in vic of SANGA RI heading towards YONGWOL.
