2. ASSESSMENT:
Appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. A farmer prior to entering CNA. Cooperative and of average intelligence. Information considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Organization. Strength and Equipment
The 50th Army was composed of 148th, 149th and 150th Div, a Guard Bn, an Arty Bn, A Sig Co, a Propaganda Unit.
The 148th Div had 442nd, 443rd and 444th Regts, a Guard Bn, an Engr Co, a Mortar Co.
The 442nd Regt was composed of 3 rifle Bns, a Mortar Co, a Sig Plat, a Recon Plat and a Guard Co.
The 2nd Bn had 3 rifle Cos (4th, 5th, 6th), a HMG Co and a Sig Sqd. The 4th Co had 3 rifle Plats, and a Mortar Sqd.

Heavy Casualties were caused by arty and air attacks. Few were killed in action by small arms fire.
The Arty Bn (atchd to Army) had 12 former CNA arty pieces (US).
The Mortar Co (atchd to Div) had 4 x 82mm M1937 Mortars.
The Mortar Co (atchd to Regt) had 6 x 82mm M1937 and 2 x 70mm Mortars
The HMG Co had 2 M1910 HMG.
The Mortar Sqd (atchd to Co) had 2 x 60mm Mortars.
Each Regt had 2 US LMG.
Each rifleman was equipped with a Chinese rifle.

b. Unit Assignment and Intentions
The 442nd Regt mission was to hold the hill located approx 2 km E of ANYANG (CS1640) 8 Feb 51. Due to heavy air and arty attacks the Regt was forced to withdraw.
Future mission of this unit is to combine with a rear unit and attack the UN Forces until they are cleared out of KOREA. As told by a Political Officer 2 Feb 51

c. Disposition
5 Feb 51 150th Div was on the right flank of 148th Div and 149th Div was on the left flank.
5 Feb 51, heard from the Political Officer that the 38th Army was located in vic of SEOUL.

d. Communication
Telephones and runners were used for communication within the units.

f. Morale
Approx 80% of the men in PW unit had low morale due to hatred for Communism, over exhaustion, fear of air and arty attacks, and insufficient food and clothing.

g. Chronology
PW volunteered in CNA, 60th Army in Sep 42 at YUNNAN (雲南). Stayed with this unit until captured by CCF Oct 48 at CHUNGCHUNG (长春). Jan 49, 60th Army was integrated into 50th CCF Army.
The 442nd Regt crossed Manchurian Border at MANPOJIN (BA7259) Sep 50. Marched into KOREA and arrived SINUIJU Oct 50, where 50th Army assembled. 442nd Regt crossed CHONGCHON River Nov 50 and passed through P’YONGYANG Dec 50.
Arrived SEOUL 8 Jan 51. The same day, the Regt crossed HAN River 2 km E of SEOUL over the ice. While crossing HAN River, no bridging equipment was observed. After crossing Regt arrived KWACHON (CS2344) 9 Jan 51. 10 Jan 51, continued marching and arrived SUWON 11 Jan 51.
12 Jan 51, withdrew to PUGONG-NI (CS1734) and arrived same day. Remained for approx 10 days setting up defense positions. 2 Feb 51 retreated to vic of ANYANG (CS1640).
As of 7 Feb 51, Regt was holding a hill approx 2 km E of ANYANG. The night of 7th, received a heavy arty barrage and began retreating.
PW and 3 soldiers lost contact with their unit that night and 8 Feb 51, were captured as they came out from their foxholes.

h. Food and Ammo Supplies
Since crossing the border, no food supplies arrived from CHINA. Troops were fed twice per day. Ammo was insufficient. No ammo supplies were received after crossing the border. Each rifleman had approx 50 - 60 rd ammo and 3 hand grenades 8 Feb 51. Each 60mm mortar had approx 12 rd ammo 8 Feb 51.

i. Psychological Warfare
Picked up three UN surrender leaflets 3 - 5 Feb 51. PW intended to desert and surrender to the UN Forces but did not have the opportunity.

j. Foreign Troops
PW stated that each Co had one interpreter (Korean).

k. Medical
Did not receive any immunizations. The most prevalent disease in his unit was malaria. Approx 30 men had malaria in his Co.

l. Night Bombing
Unit was not subjected to any night bombings.

4. REMARKS:
Previously interrogated by the 25th Div IPW Team.
