FIELD REPORT (2 Div LDI 0209) 24 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: PAK Tong Son
AGE: 32
RANK: Pvt

UNIT: 12th Div, 2nd Regt, 3rd Bn, HMG Co
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 23 Feb 51 at vic of SUJU-MYON, SUJON-NI (DS3636)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Appeared very ignorant and stupid. Information was obtained by repeated questioning and explanation. Information not reliable.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
PW deserted his unit 20 Feb 51 2 km W of SUJON-NI because he was tired of walking and afraid of UN Arty bombardment and captured at SUJON-NI 23 Feb 51.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
2nd Regt of 12th Div defeated at battle of YONGWOL-LI (vic of DS3636) 20 Feb 51 and retreated eastward with a total strength of only 400 men.
At this time the disposition of the 1st Regt, 2nd Regt and Div Hq was unk.
Arriving in SUJON-NI (DS3636) 20 Feb 51, PW deserted. Prior to leaving, he heard a Recon man from 2nd Regt Hq say that 12th Div was going to assemble and regroup at KANGNUNG (DS9079).
1st Regt after leaving SUJON-NI was last observed heading north-east.
At no time during their movement did the PW observe the 1st and 2nd Regt, or any units from other Div.

b. Weapons:
HMG Co had 2 HMG (1000 rds each), LMG, 50mm mortar. 90% of the troops had either PPSH SMG or Russian rifles.

c. Clothing:
All issued winter uniforms.

d. Physical Condition.
Weak, because of long walk and lack of food and sleep.

e. Morale:
Very low, because troops were not able to sleep due to Arty and air bombardment.

f. Medical:
No contagious disease appeared among troops; no immunizations given.

g. Food:
Insufficient, troops fed only once or twice a day.
