2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was not cooperative. Information seems reliable. Not familiar with terrain, place names were obtained by showing PW a map.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
39th Army crossed the 38th Parallel and arrived at KOYANG (phonetic) located 20 km NW of SEOUL 10 Jan 51. Rested here until 5 Feb 51, and received long hours of Political Training. Made wheat cakes in preparation for their offensive, issued new shoes and summer uniform, and replenished with US M-1 rifle ammo. Did not dig trenches or set up defensive position outside of their own unit defensive perimeter.
5 Feb 51 all elements of 39th Army and attached units moved out heading SW. Walked 10 days and arrived in OKHYON-NI Area (CS7945) 14 Feb 51 when they were met by UN Forces.
346th Regt of 116th Div was the lead element and were ordered to attack and push UN Forces out of OKHYON-NI and secure road in vic of Hill 95 (CS7845) to make an opening for the main force of 116th Div to come through.
After a hard fought battle with the UN Forces, 346th Regt (estimated 2,000) secured both side of the road and sent up LMG Sq of 10 men each on Hills 239, 301, 397 (vic of OKHYON-NI).
115th and 117th Div believed to be located in rear of 116th Div.
After setting up a defensive position, the men of PW company were told by the Political Officer that 4th phase offensive operation started and that each individual soldier should save their wheat cakes only for emergency use, and all clothing should be given proper care.
346th Regt bivouacked in that area 14 or 15 Feb 51. PW deserted his unit morning of 16 Feb 51. Believes that his unit might have moved because of heavy Arty bombardment.

b. Weapons:
Weapons of 3rd Bn: 1 x 81mm mortars, 1 x 82mm mortar, 2 x 60mm mortar per Co, 1 x 4.2mm mortar, (rd unk), 3 HMG, 6 LMG per Co. All had either US M-1 Rifles (150 rd each), Japanese rifles (80 rd ea), or carbines (60 rd each).

c. Clothing:
All wore winter uniforms over green summer uniforms.

d. Food:
Insufficient; fed corn.

e. Morale: Very low, because of continuous marching, lack of food, cold and tired, and heavy air and arty bombardment.
