FIELD REPORT (I CORPS IPW 27)　5 February 1951

The 50th Army composed of 148th, 149th and 150th Div. 148th Div composed of 442nd, 443rd, and 444th Regt. 443rd Regt composed of 3 Rifle Bn, Communications Plat and Recon Plat. 3rd Bn, 443rd Regt composed of 4 Rifle Co. 9th Co, 3rd Bn composed of 3 rifle Plat. 3rd plat, 9th Co composed of 4 rifle Sqd.

Code names:

50th Army -- UANG SHAN PU

443rd Regt -- 2nd Co

148th Div -- 1st Bn

3rd Bn, 443rd Regt -- 3rd Plat

9th Co, 3rd Bn -- 3rd Sqd

Majority of casualties were caused by artillery and air strikes.

1st and 3rd Bn, 443rd Regt was to defend KOISAN (CS226371).

443rd Regt CP was located 4 km N of CS226371.

Morale in his unit was very low due to the following reasons:

(1) Lack of food and clothing.

(2) Severe UN air strikes and artillery bombardment.

(3) Former CNA soldiers are mistreated.

Food was procured locally and was never sufficient. Issued 60 rd of ammo at CS226371, o/a 2 Feb 51. Each MG had approx 500 rd of ammo as of 2 Feb 51.

PW was never given any immunizations since coming to KOREA. Many are suffering from frostbite. There were three malaria cases in his Co. Influenza was very common. Patients did not receive treatment.

443rd Regt walked across the frozen HAN River o/a 12 Jan 51, in vic SEOUL. No bridging equipment observed.

Unit did not receive any night bombing.

No knowledge regarding the availability and source of maps.
