ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO 3829　6 March 1951

FIELD REPORT (3rd Div IPW No 046)　5 February 1951

PW was captured when he and three others attacked 5 or 6 UN tanks with hand grenades. One was killed, two escaped and the subject alone captured.

Cooperative but his information was limited as to his immediate unit. He seemed afraid of being shot after capture. However, he talked freely after being re-assured of not being shot. Physical condition - good. Reliability - fair.

(1) 2nd Bn: The 2nd Bn, consisting of the 4th, 6th and 6th Companies are dug in at the foot of the hill just N of the village in which he was captured (CS 286395 - Presumably UNJUNG-NI).

(2) 1st and 3rd Bn: These two Bn are located in hills approx 6 km NE of the position in which he was captured.

(3) 445th and 447th Regt: These two Regt are located in hills approx 8 km N of the 445th position.

2nd Bn was to secure position in this area and prevent any UN infiltration W along this road.

Land mines: PW claims his unit planted about 4 land mines 50 meters apart on road (Where the wheels of vehicles would touch) beginning 50 meters W of the village of UNJUNG-NI (Presumed). These mines were anti-tank mines.

PW unit has not received any reinforcements, nor does he know of any immediately available. 3 Feb 51, Co CO told his men not to be despaired by the present situation because five Armies of the 2nd Field Army have arrived in SEOUL 4 or 5 days ago. His CO had heard it over a radio at 2nd Bn HQ to which he made frequent official visits.

Subject has not heard UN broadcast from aircraft.
