2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative but not too intelligent. Judgment of distances and dimensions fairly good. Reliability - Fair.

3. ARTILLERY:

Artillery Regt, approx 500 men.

At WONSAN (元山).

e. Combat Experience:
About 3 months, from WONSAN (元山), south.

f. Casualties (No and Cause)
75% casualties; mostly due to air strikes.

g. UN Counter-Battery
Very effective.

h. Air Attack
Men were demoralized.
Men hid in trenches and foxholes.

i. Armament (Type)
3rd Bn armed with 120mm mortars.
Japanese, type 2.
12 men moved one through mountains.
Approx 4,000m (hearsay).

j. Fuses: Similar to KTM-1.

k. Battery Organization
4 guns per battery.

l. Ammo (Amount)
200 per battery.
Regimental supply point located about 4km to the rear of Btry.
Plenty of ammo was available.
Used trucks whenever possible, sometimes by soldiers.
The best roads were used for ammo transportation.
An average of 50 rounds per day.

m. Organization of Position Area
In triangle formation; 20 - 30m apart.
Branches and twigs were used for camouflage.
Slit trenches were dug.
Guns were dug in.
Btry had no machine gun but each EM was armed with a rifle.
Unit took care of own position security.

n. Employment (Btry, Bn, etc.)
Guns Employed by battery.
Direct support.
Utilized both as offensive and defensive weapons.
Method and Reliability of Communication:
Wireless, telephone and runner.
Communication was very reliable.

o. Observation, range platoon utilized:
Three men team adjusted fire by telephone.
By telephone.
Controlled by the regimental Range Co. (Method unknown).

p. Btry Fire Control (Type)
25 Jun 50, near the 38th parallel prior to crossing the HAN river, Unit carried out barrage mission on UN Force.

q. Massing of Fire
Unit can mass the fire of Bn.

r. Unit Equipment
All required equipment and instruments were on hand.

s. Losses (Guns)
Abandoned 2 guns when attacked by planes.
