FIELD REPORT (2 DIV LDI - 0220) 15 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: LIU, Tsung Chuen
AGE: 36
DUTY: Asst Sqd Ldr
UNIT: 40th CCF Army, 120th Div, 358th Regt, 3rd Bn, 9th Co
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 150900 Feb 1951 at vic 1½ km NW of WONJU (DS0236)
INTERROGATOR: Sgt KITSU

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative but his knowledge was limited. Information seems to be reliable. PW evacuated through medical channels.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
While engaged in battle with UN Forces, PW was wounded 15 Feb 51. Tried to locate his unit and descended a hill (located 1½ km NW of WONJU) and was captured.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
The 120th Div departed 90 km NE of SEOUL 5 Feb 51 and arrived vic of WONJU on 14 Feb 51. PW was only told that they were going into combat and he does now know the objective and intentions of 120th Div. PW believes 118th and 119th Div (also of the 40th CCF Army) accompanied 120th Div to WONJU.
14 Feb 51, 120th Div Hq CP was located on a hill 1½ km NW of WONJU. The strength of the 120th Div was unknown. 120th Div was comprised of the 358th, 359th and 360th Regt. The 358th Regt was situated with the 120th Div Hq and 359th and 360th Regt were on its right flank.
PW does not know of any adjacent and supporting units besides the 120th Div.

b. Weapons:
Weapons observed in the 358th Regt, 3rd Bn (Strength estimated to be about 400).
3 82mm Mortars (ammo unk)
9 60mm Mortars (50 rd per)
3 HMG (Japanese make) (2,000 rd per)
6 LMG (1,000 rd per)
25 Automatic Rifles per Co (80 rd ea)
2 PPSH SMG per Plat (200 rd per)
Rifleman carried Chinese 7.9mm rifle (100 rd ea). His company (9th Co - approx 110 men) suffered 50-60 casualties.

c. Clothing:
Everyone in 120th Div wore winter clothing.

d. Medical:
Neither saw nor heard of any contagious diseases.

e. Food:
Men ate only 2 meals a day but found it sufficient.

f. Morale:
Morale of the men was low due to the UN Forces continuous artillery and air attacks.
