2. ASSESSMENT:

3. CIRCUMSTANCE OF CAPTURE:
Captured by 5th ROK Div 9 Feb 51 at ANHUNG MYON, CHONGGUM-NI (DS 2050).

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
20 Jul 50 - Conscripted at SEOUL. Assigned to "Internal Affairs", 100th Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co, 1st Plat, 3rd Sqd. Received three days training.
28 Jul 50 - Dep SEOUL by train and arr at CHONAN. Immediately continued southward move upon arrival on foot.
5 Sep 50 - 100th Regt arr TAEJON on foot; stayed here 2 days.
23 Sep 50 - Arr MUJU on foot; remained here for 6 days.
12 Oct 50 - 100th Regt arr CHONJU on foot; remained here another 6 days.
20 Oct 50 - Retreated to TAEJON; stayed 1½ days.
Late Oct 50 - 100th Regt deactivated; reassigned to present unit. (On SABAEK Mt range, in vic of YONGWOL, SK.)
Late Nov 50 - 4th Regt arr at locations approx 24 km S of MANPOJIN, NK.
Early Dec 50 - II NK Corps composed of 2nd, 4th and 9th Div began southward movements.
Late Dec 50 - 4th Regt, the leading elements of II Corps passed HWACHON, NK.
7 Jan 50 - 4th Regt arr TUNNAE-MYON, SIJANGTO (DS 3151).
9 Jan 51 - 2nd Bn of 4th Regt arr YANGJIMAL (DS 2150) vic HANGOGAE (DS 2549) and again moved eastward.
5 Feb 51 - Obs troops of II Corps CP and also 9th Div concentrated on CHONGGUM-SAN (DS 1851), Hill 481, digging trenches. With the peak of Hill 481, troop concentration covered an area of approx 25 sq km.
9 Feb 51 - Captured at CHONGGUM-NI (DS 2050) by 5th ROK Div.

When 2nd Bn was crossing the 38th Parallel during latter part of Dec 50, it suffered the following casualties. However, these figures are included in the strength of Bn, as given above.

Food: The amount of food foraged from local villages was not enough to supply all troops. Men usually ate only twice daily.
Med: None
Clothing; Troops were quilted type winter wear (2 colors); caps with folding ear flaps; 1/3 of men with leather-boots, 2/3 with tennis shoe type regulation boots. The color of uniforms were 1) Blue-gray, 2) light tan.

h. Other Units:
Approx 300 guerrillas were observed on hills, 1km N of CHONGGUM-NI (DS 2050) 6 Feb 51. Guerrillas carried mixed weapons; wore black and white civilian clothes.

I. UN PW:
50 ROK PW attached to the 2nd Bn, 4th Regt, 2nd Div of the II NK Corps. Total of PW in 4th Regt was estimated to be 200; PW, like NK troops wore padded uniforms and were subjected to general details mainly hauling food and ammo for troops. There was one armed guard for every 10 PW. PW were generally over-worked and complained of being physically fatigued.
