ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO 3746　2 March 1951

FIELD REPORT (164 MISDI 1607)　27 February 1951

PW service with the II NK Corps was limited, but the information seems to be reliable and accurate.

Conscripted 20 Sep 50, KYONGGI DO, PAJU GUN and assigned to the 38th NK Brigade in CHORWON for training.

Oct 50, 38th Brigade was deactivated because of the rapid UN advance. Troops were dispersed into small groups and ordered to retreat Northward on their own.

PW and 18 men retreated from CHORWON to HUICH'ON: arriving there 20 Nov 50.

22 Nov 50, PW and the 18 others marched to PYONGYANG, arriving 10 Dec 50.

Upon arrival, the group was ordered to proceed to HWACH'ON (CT8717) to join the II Corps Hqs.

1 Jan 51, the group arrived HWACH'ON on foot and was integrated into the II Corps Hqs as 2nd Plat of Communication Liaison Unit of Guerrilla Bureau.

23 Feb 51, PW and another man were left behind at TASU-RI by Corps Hqs because they were not able to march.

24 Feb 51, attempted to rejoin his unit but captured by US patrols enroute to SANGANMI-RI.

b. Location and Activities

II Corps Hq 23 Feb 51 was located in the village of SANGANMI-RI (DS4846).

Hq was composed of approximately 300 officers and men. Almost every building in SANGANMI-RI was utilized as part of the II Corps Hq.

During daylight hours, 50% of the Hq personnel are dispersed in the nearby hills for protection against air attacks.

The II Corps Hqs on 21 Feb 51, had moved to SANGANMI-RI, from TASU-RI (DS4439).

There are 6 Independent Guerrilla units under the jurisdiction of the II NK Corps.

Following are the names, codes, and areas of operation for five known guerrilla units (1 guerrilla unit unidentified).

24 Feb 51, the KYONGGI DO, KYONGSANG NAM PUKTO, and KANGWON-DO Guerrilla Units were located in the village of KAECH'ON-RI (DS 0445).

The above units were in KAECH'ON-RI, in preparation to infiltrate UN positions to their respective areas of operation.

20 Feb 51, PW unit made contact with the KYONGSANG NAM PUKTO Guerrilla Unit at TALIN MYON. Overheard the Guerrilla chief told his platoon leader that the CHUNGCHONG NAM PUKTO, CHOLLA PUKTO, and the one unidentified guerrilla unit have infiltrated UN positions and have reached their objectives.

The KYONGGI-DO, KYONGSANG NAM PUKTO, and KANGWON DO Guerrilla Units recently have each been issued one Chinese-made wireless set for communication between guerrilla units and the II Corps Hqs.

CHUNGCHONG NAM PUKTO, CHOLLA PUKTO, and the unidentified guerrilla unit, as of 24 Feb 51, were not equipped with wireless sets.

Effect are being made by the Guerrilla Bureau of the II Corps to equip the above units.

3 Feb 51, saw approximately 100 CCF troops marching to HOENGSONG from YUDONG NI.

PW believes that this group, was part of a large infantry unit rumored to be somewhere North of HOENGSONG. (Rumor picked up in Corps Hq)

II Corps: 2nd, 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th NK Rifle Divisions. Possibly also the 7th Rifle Division.
