1. PERSONAL DETAILS

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative, lacked information however, because he arrived in the 120th Div as a replacement 10 Feb 51.
The information seems fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Conscripted into the CCF 10 Sep 49 at HUPEI SHENG (湖北省) and underwent 2 weeks of political training only because he had 3 years of prior service with the CNA, 10 years ago.
After training was completed, PW worked on a collective farm.
1 Jul 50, assigned to the 40th Army, Unk Independent Regiment, 1st Bn, 1st Co, 1st Plat, 2nd Sqd as rifleman. The following day departed with the Regiment by rail to SHENYANG (淮陽), arriving 7 Jul 50. There PW underwent political and infantry (obstacle course only with full field packs, less weapons) training for a period of three months. After the training was completed, the entire regiment was given furloughs; they were told by their commanding officer that in the near future they were going into battle.
4 Jan 51, departed by rail to ANTUNG (安東), arriving 6 Jan 51, and, during darkness, marched across the YALU River and arrived SINUIJU (XE 1839) 7 Jan 51.
8 Jan 51, departed southward via mountain routes, arriving South of the 38th Parallel 10 Feb 51. Here, the Regiment was distributed into units of the 120th Division; PW was assigned to the 359th Regiment, 1st Bn, 2nd Co, 3rd Plat, 9th Squad as a rifleman.
11 Feb 51, departed with the 120th Division, arriving in the vicinity of WONJU (DS 0734) o/a 14 Feb 51.
18 Feb 51, the 120th Division engaged UN units, and, during this battle, PW deserted and surrendered because he did not want to die.

b. Replacements:
10 Feb 51, the 120th Division received approx 1,200 replacements at an unk area South of the 38th Parallel. These replacements were from the Independent Regiment, which was deactivated on that day.
The troops (new replacements) had received 3 months political and infantry training at ANTUNG (安東) prior to crossing the YALU River o/a 4 Jan 51. These replacements carried no weapons; they were issued 2 hand grenades each after being assigned to the 120th Division 10 Feb 51.

c. Morale:
The morale was low because of insufficient food, clothing, and weapons. They feared death and were afraid to enter battle.

d. Psychological Warfare:
Surrendered because he feared death.
He had seen no leaflets.
