1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative and talked freely.
Information seems unreliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Inducted into the ROK 8th Div, 21st Regt 23 Nov 50 at PUSAN.
28 Dec 50, captured by the NKA in the MAEBONG (CT7015) vicinity. After ten days of Political training. PW and 26 other ROK were assigned to the units of the 31st Div. PW was assigned to the 45th Regt, 2nd Bn, Light Weapons Co, 2nd Plat.
9 Jan 51 departed MAEBONG with 31st Div southward, arriving YONGWOL (DS 5315) 28 Jan 51. Here, Div engaged UN forces and after five days retreated northward, arriving YAKSU-RI (DS4232) 4 Feb 51. Prepared defensive positions in mountains around YAKSU-RI.
15 Feb 51, PW was supposed to eat his breakfast in the YAKSU-RI village but was too tired to get out of his foxhole. When he awoke, he found the village deserted. While searching for his unit, PW was captured.

b. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food was obtained only through confiscation. Ammo had not been received since the PW joined the 31st Division Dec 50.

c. SIGNAL:
All units of the 31st Div utilized telephones; runners were also used.

d. Morale:
Morale of the 31st Div troops was low because of insufficient food, clothing and ammunition.

e. Medical:
There were a few cases of frostbite but these received no medical treatment.

f. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
PW was captured.
PW had seen leaflets. The leaflets stated that the CCF troops entered North KOREA only to confiscate commodities, and that the CCF always employed the NKA units to fight on the 1st Line, while they (CCF) remained in the rear.
The other soldiers were highly amused after reading the leaflet.
