1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW joined the CCF 6 Dec 48 at SHENYANG (瀋寧) and attended the TUNGHWA (通化) Officer's Candidate School for three months, graduating 5 Mar 49 with the rank of Company Commander.
Assigned to 150th Div, 450th Regt 10 Mar 49 at YENCHI (延吉). Div was engaged in training at YENCHI until Jul 49.
Jul 49, the 150th Div was transferred to HONAN SHENG, SHANG CHIU HSIEN (河南省 産邱縣), and made a part of the 50th Army, and underwent advanced infantry training.
Oct 49, Div departed HONAN SHENG, and arrived HUPEI SHENG, HSING CHENG HSIEN (湖北省 興城縣) to engage CNA Forces, but was not engaged in combat as the CNA Unit retreated.
During early Nov 49, the 50th Army arrived SUCHUAN SHENG, TASHU HSIEN (四川省 大竹省).
28 Dec 49, arrived HUPEI SHENG engaged in constructing irrigation waterways and farming.
Aug 50, arrived HONAN SHENG, CHIUSHAN HSIEN (河南省 確山縣) underwent training.
Sep 50, arrived CHIUN SHENG, HAILUNG HSIEN (吉林省 海龍縣) prepared for combat.
20 Oct 50, arrived ANTUNG (安東).
24 Oct 50, crossed the YALU River from ANTUNG into SINUIJU (XE1839).
26 Oct 50, the 150th Div departed SINUIJU and marched to CHOLSAN (XE4303), arriving 27 Oct 50.
4 Dec 50, Div departed CHOLSAN and marched through NAMSI (XE9218), PAKCHON (YE2100), ANJU (YD2988), PYONGYANG, SEOUL, KWACHON (CS1943), SUWON (CS2427), and arrived KUMYANGJANG-NI (CS4122) on 15 Jan 51.
20 Jan 51, engaged UN units near YAUGJI-NI (CS2822) and retreated to SINWON-NI (CS2846) and set up positions guarding MOK-NI (CS6023) 5 Feb 51.
7 Feb 51, retreated to CHANGDONG (CS7119) after UN Units attacked MOK-NI. 9 Feb 51, retreated to KWANGJU (CS4049) after UN units attacked CHANGDONG.
Engaged UN Unit at the KWANGJU Area until 14 Feb 51.
141500 I Feb 51 at CS414490 PW and six others surrendered when their position on hill 520 was surrounded.

b. Location and Activities of Unit:
Heard that the Spring Offensive was to start during the middle of Feb 51. The 38th, 39th, 40th, 42nd, 50th Armies and the 20th Army Group (二O兵團) were to attack in conjunction with NKA Units.
Previously, the mission of the 50th Army was to defend a line from SUWON to ICHON (CS6227), but failed its mission.
Believes that the 150th Div withdrew to a defense line on the N bank of HAN River, East of SEOUL, after attack by UN Forces near KWANGJU (CS4049) 14 Feb 51.
While on the defensive position in the KWANGJU area 14 Feb 51, the 38th Army was on the East Flank of the 150th Div. The 149th Div was located on the West flank of 150th Div with the 148th and an NKA unit to the west of the 149th Div Sector. While in these positions, the responsible zone of each Division of the 50th Army was 10km wide.

e. Replacements:
PW did not see or hear of any replacements.

f. Food, Ammo and Other Supplies:
Food was procured locally, usually 1kg of rice per man, if available. 1 week's supply was carried with the unit while in movement.
Ammo was transported directly from SHENYANG to P'YONGYANG by train. From P'YONGYANG the ammo was transported by trucks and horse cats directly to each regiment. This operation was started during Jan 51.
Each man of the 150th Div was issued 1 pair of winter shoes and socks at KWANGJU 11 Feb 51.

g. Armor, Artillery, and Aircraft:
During December 1950, observed 7 tanks and 7 to 8 howitzers of the NKA being moved south from ANJU. Each Arty piece was drawn by a truck.

h. Signal:
Telephone used by companies, battalions, and regiments.
Wireless was used by regiment and division.
Signal flare guns, used by the 150th Div, employed red or green flares. If one flare was used to signal an attack, the other was used to signal a withdrawal or stop the attack. The choice of color was at the discretion of the division commander.

i. Morale and Battle Effectiveness:
Morale of the 150th Div troops was low because of the high casualty rate, insufficient food, and lack of freedom in the CCF.

j. Medical:
Approx 10% of the 2nd Bn, 450th Regt, were suffering from malaria. Quinine was available.
10 to 20% of the 2nd Bn, 450th Regt troops were suffering from frozen feet. A jelly was applied to the frozen feet.

k. Psychological Warfare:
PW surrendered because their position was surrounded and further resistance was useless.
Had seen leaflets. Fair treatment was promised if he surrendered.
Believed them because all PW are to be treated fairly under international law.
