FIELD REPORT (2 DIV LDI 0145) 9 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: Ki Dong San

2. ASSESSMENT:
Information was limited due to short service in the NKA. Information seems not reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
Escaped from his unit o/a 16 Jan 51 at MUGOL-NI (CS7772) with 3 other NK soldiers and hid in this deserted village until 6 Feb 51, captured.
Escaped from his unit due to his poor physical condition, not being able to endure the cold weather and long marches.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
The 2nd Div (estimated strength 5,000) consisted of 3 rifle Regt (4th, 5th and 6th Regt), 1 mortar Regt (estimated strength 100), 1 Medical Co (estimated strength 50), 1 Signal Co (estimated strength 45).
Troops in 2nd Div were all armed. Weapons consisted of Russian rifles approx 500 (50 rd ea), LMG approx 5 (300 rd ea), SMG approx 45 (300 rd ea), Carbines approx 15 (50 rd ea), Pistols approx 20 (30 rd ea), Mortars (82mm) approx 7 (9 rd ea).
2nd Div left CHUNCHON (CS8994) o/a 15 Jan 51 and arrived vicinity MUGOL-NI (CS7772) on the same day. Movements of the 2nd Div was made thru mountains due to UN aerial attacks. 16 Jan 51 before his escape, he observed the 2nd Div moving from MUGOL-NI (CS7772) toward the south. At this time PW heard from his squad leader that the Div was going to WONJU and that 2nd Div mission was to go to the via of TAEJON (CE5921) and put up road blocks.

5. GENERAL INFORMATION:
a. Food:
Food was insufficient and troops ate only 2 meals a day.

b. Clothing:
All troops had winter uniforms.

c. Medical:
Did not observe any contagious diseases but saw 20 men in his Co suffering from frostbite. No medical treatment was given due to the shortage of medicine.

d. Morale:
Morale is low due to insufficient food and daily UN forces aerial and ground attacks.
