3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
5 Aug 50 - Conscripted into the NKA at P’YONGYANG and assigned to 2nd Plat, 2nd Co, 22nd Bn, 106th Regt; estimated strength 2,000.
7 Aug 50 - Regt departed P’YONGYANG by train for SUWON (水原) via SARIWON (沙里院), HWANGJU (黃州), KAESONG (開城) and SEOUL. Stayed in SUWON (水原) four days. Confiscated US supply items from citizens.
18 Aug 50 - Regt departed SUWON on foot for P’YONGTAEK (平澤). Confiscated US items from villagers.
23 Aug 50 - Departed P’YONGTAEK on foot for CH’ONAN (天安). Received 5 days creeping and crawling training. Confiscated UN supplies.
30 Aug 50 - Departed CH’ONAN (天安) on foot for TAEJON (太田). Received one week training. Confiscated US supplies.
8 Sep 50 - Regt departed TAEJON (太田) on foot for ASAN (牙山). Received 2 days same training, 2 hrs a day. Dug trenches 10 days for coastal defense. Promoted to Sgt, assigned as Sqd Ldr.
26 Sep 50 - Regt retreated toward P‘YONGYANG due to ROK superior power.
10 Oct 50 - Regt engaged ROK at WONJU (原州). Many deserted and a few casualties.
11 Oct 50 - Remainder headed toward ICH’ON (伊川). Remainder engaged ROK at P’YONGKANG (平康), but no casualties.
5 Nov 50 - Arrived ICH’ON (伊川). Stragglers and deserters were regrouped. Independent 8th Regt was formed and PW was assigned to 1st Sqd, 1st Co, 3rd Bn as Sqd Ldr; estimated strength 2,000.
13 Nov 50 - Ind 8th Regt departed ICH’ON (伊川) on foot for INJE (麟蹄). 8th Regt assigned to the 2nd Div and redesignated 6th Regt. PW was assigned to 1st Sqd, 3rd Plat, 1st Co, 3rd Bn, 6th Regt as Sqd Ldr. Estimated strength of 2nd Div was 6,000.
16 Nov 50 - 2nd Div departed INJE (麟蹄) on foot for YONGWOL (寧越). PW fell behind at CHOLGOL (철골) on 5 Jan 51 because of illness.
25 Jan 51 - PW arrived YONGWOL (寧越) on foot but 2nd Div had already left for CHECH’ON (堤川). Stayed 10 days at villagers house because of illness.
6 Feb 51 - PW departed YONGWOL (寧越) on foot for P’YONGCHANG (平昌) because 2nd Div had retreated to P’YONGCHANG.
7 Feb 51 - PW arrived P’YONGCHANG (平昌) but 2nd Div had already left.
10 Feb 51 - Captured by ROK unit.

e. Intentions:
2nd Div was to destroy enemy transportation and communication system and push UN forces back until CCF arrives, which was expected in Feb 51.

f. Morale:
Morale low, due to shortage of men and supplies.

g. Replacements:
No replacements were received since the 2nd Div had absorbed the Independent 8th Regt on 13 Nov 50.

h. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
Bn aid stations were located approx 1km behind the lines. Light wounds were treated here, while seriously wounded were evacuated by horses carts back to the Regt aid station located 20 km behind the lines.

i. Supply:
Each man carried 2 - 3 days rations and 150 rd for small arms. All Hq Units transported food on ox-back. Arty shells were carried by individuals (artillery men), 5 - 6 shells ea person.

j. Weapons Feared Most:
Fragmentation bomb.
Artillery fire.
Strafing.
