FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0205) 20 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: KIM Song Nok (ROKA)
AGE: 33
RANK: 1st Lt
UNIT: 5th ROK Div, 36th Regt, 2nd Bn, 6th Co
EDUCATION: Middle School Graduate
PLACE OF BIRTH: GANDO SONG, YONGGIL HYON, SAM HAPCHUN, MANCHURIA
PLACE OF CAPTURE: Subject was picked up by 2nd Bn, 21st RCT vic CS 703493 on 200800 Feb 51.

2. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Sep 45: Subject joined Chinese Communist Volunteer Army in MANCHURIA and was commissioned to 1st Lt.
Jan 46: Appointed to Military Academy but deserted several months before graduation. Subject did not like Communist policies.
Jul 47: Subject’s property confiscated by Communist. Subject fled MANCHURIA to N KOREA. Remained at KOMUSAN, North KROEA disguised as a common laborer.
Jan 48: Crossed 38th parallel and interrogated by US Occupation forces at KAESONG.
Sep 49: Commissioned to 1st Lt of ROKA in the reserves.
Jul 50: Called to active service and assigned to 6th ROK Div, 19th Regt, 3rd Bn (S-2).
Sep 50: Transferred to 5th ROK Div, G-2 Sec.
Dec 50: Transferred to 6th Co, 2nd Bn, 36th Regt, 5th Div as company commander.
Subject separated from his unit 1 Jan 51 at CHIMAN-NI CT 7805 and arrived at YONGMUN-SAN CS 7458 o/a 15 Jan 51. Departed this location and arrived at OKCHON-NI CS 6553 o/a 16 Jan. Unable to proceed further S due to CCF troops in OKCHON-NI and along HAN River. Subject estimated strength of CCF vic OKCHON-NI to be regimental strength. Subject returned to YONGMUN-SAN where he remained for approx 1 month. At YONGMUN-SAN subject observed approx 2500 - 3000 CCF trp along foot of mountains in valleys. Stated that these troops seemed to march toward the HAN River approx 1800 hours and then return to YONGMUN-SAN early morning. Subject observed approx 200 - 300 horses which was utilized to carry packs. LMG, HMG and mortars (number unk) were observed but saw no arty pieces. These troops began to withdraw N in groups of company strength from 151900 Feb then by 170500 Feb the withdrawal was completed. Subject heard from civilian that he guided these CCF troops to SINBON-NI CS 6555 o/a 161900 Feb from YANGPYONG. At SINBON-NI guide was wounded by air strike o/a 170800 Feb and returned to his home. Other casualties unk. Before releasing guide a CCF officer asked for the road leading to CHONGPYONG-NI CS 6987. Number of CCF troops unk. Subject departed YONGMUN-SAN for the general direction of UN positions 192100 Feb. When proceeding towards UN positions subject heard CCF troops estimated to be company strength in vic of YONGPYONG.

b. US PW:
At YONGMUN-SAN subject observed 15 US PW including 3 officers (2nd Lt) on 16 Feb. These prisoners were taken N on mountain trial leading to TAEGONG-NI GS 6987. All PW were in good physical condition.
