2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW deserted his unit at 180900 Feb 51 and voluntarily surrendered to elements of 5th RCT. Was of average intelligence. Information is fairly reliable. No prior service with Chinses Nationalist Army.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW conscripted into the CCF at T■■■-HSIEN Apr 50. PW received 2 months basic training and assigned to the present unit.
PW believed 38th Army crossed 38th parallel approx 1 month ago. Bivouacked at unknown location 16 km W of SEOUL approx 15 days. 2nd Bn crossed HAN River 12 Feb 51 and arrived vic CS 595498 16 Feb 51. 17 Feb 51 engaged UN forces. During this engagement PW observed approx 30 KIA and 30 WIA. Withdrew to more favorable positions. Early 18 Feb 51 2nd Bn received Arty fire and became completely disorganized and retreated N to unk location.

d. Food & Ammo:
Food insufficient (1 meal per day). Locally procured. Ammo insufficient.

e. Morale
Morale is low due to incessant air and arty bombardment. Also due to lack of food and rest. Many have no desire to fight.

f. Psychological Warfare:
Has picked up leaflet but was not able to read. Discussed with intimate friend and thought to escape at first opportunity. However, due to fear of being shot by superiors, troops are afraid to desert.

g. Knowledge of Flame Throwers:
No knowledge. MOLOTOV COCKTAIL used against tanks. When PW unit retreated large quantities of ammo and Molotov Cocktails were abandoned.
