ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 3582　26 February 1951

FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0202)　19 February 1951

PW was captured by 1st Bn, 21st RCT. Was in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Information considered fairly reliable.

PW conscripted into the present unit 20 Jul 50 at YANGPYONG as a driver. Unit arrived at P’YONGYANG early part of Dec 50 after remaining at HUIGHON, N KOREA for 1 month. Unit remained at P’YONGYANG for approx 1 month and during this period unit supplied rice, clothing and other supplies to 5th NK Div. PW and 1 officer arrived in SEOUL o/a 24 Jan 51. Unit had arrived in SEOUL and then departed for INCH’ON 1 day earlier. Mission of unit was to supply the 31st or 32nd NK Div located at INCH’ON. PW also heard 1 unk NK Corps was located at INCH’ON. PW observed 20 drums of gasoline and heard 100 drums of gasoline was destroyed by UN air strike. PW departed INCH’ON with unit commander same day for SEOUL and remained in SEOUL for approx 1 week. At SEOUL PW heard that I NK Corps occupied SEOUL. PW departed SEOUL with jeep to visit family at YANGPYONG and arrived there 5 Feb 51. Enroute from SEOUL to YANSU-RI CS 5356 only few CCF troops walking on road were observed however, approx 30 CCF troops were observed at YANSU-NI. Also heard a CCF Div CP was located at YANSU-NI. Enroute from YANSU-NI to YANGPYONG numerous CCF troops were observed dug in along mountains and also many CCF troops hiding in RR tunnels during day light hours. No CCF nor NK troops observed in YANGPYONG. Upon learning his family had evacuated PW departed 6 Feb 51 and arrived at YANGSU-NI. There PW had to abandon jeep and departed to HWAYANG-NI CS 668465 on foot. PW remained at HWAYANG-NI for 12 days until captured by 1st Bn, 21st RCT. At HWAYANG-NI PW observed approx 1000 CCF withdrew from HWAYANG-NI on 161900 Feb 51. Heard from civilian who guided CCF that CCF withdrew across the HAN River. Location of crossing nor location of CCF unk. PW observed CCF troops were armed with S/A but he heard mortar fire.

Wpns: 1/3 armed with PPSH SMG, 1/3 with mixture of carbines and rifles, 1/3 unarmed.

Vehicles: 2 x 2 1/2 ton trucks, 2 jeeps.

PW observed 500 US PW marching 2 abreast from KUJANG YE5617 to north latter part of Nov 50. Heard from NK officer that PW will be taken to RUSSIA.

PW stated that I, II and V NK Corps are S of 38th parallel but no knowledge of location or Div composing each Corps.
