1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Not recommended for further interrogation. PW was cooperative.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Mission: Original mission of 10th Div was to cut MSR behind UN lines. Present, mission to conduct guerrilla activities and to await reinforcements.

b. Strength of Unit:
(1) Original Strength: At HAMHWA as of 24 Dec 50.
Arty Regt - 600 men
2nd Bn - 180 men
Co - 50 men
Plat - 15 men
Sqd - 7 men
(2) Present Strength:
Arty Regt - 160 men
2nd Bn - 50 men
Co - 15 men
Plat - 7 men
Sqd - 3 men
Arty Regt was ordered by 10th Div Hq o/a 4 Feb 51 to reduce its strength to the minimum (160 men); the rest were sent to 25th and 27th Regt. Only Sqd Ldr, asst Sqd Ldr and 1 or 2 more were left in each squad. This was because of the hopelessness of receiving any arty.

c. Chronology:
O/a 28 Jan 51 - Arr CHIDONG (ER 9838) from vicinity of ANDONG on mission to cut UN MSR.
O/a 29 Jan 51 - Arr KOMDAN (ER 9736)
O/a 30 Jan 51 - Arr LORANDON (ER 9427)
O/a 31 Jan 51 - Arr SANGSA DONG (ER 9725). PW heard arty carriage nearby.
O/a 1 Feb 51 - Arr TAESA DONG (ER 9826) through HASA DONG (ER 9624). Here PW saw the 10th Div Hq nearby. They were attacked by planes and shelled by arty.
O/a 3 Feb 51 - Troops slept in the mountain area (ER 0318).
O/a 4 Feb 51 - Regt arrived at KALCHON (ER 1408) passing OSARI (ER 1011) HASARI (ER 0712). At OSARI they were attacked by plane. PW Arty Regt was circling around the same place for 2 to 3 days and then headed NE.
8 Feb 51 - PW surrendered at YANG NYONG NI (ER 2216).

f. Status and Route of Supply:
There was no resupply of ammo, food, clothing and medicine. Arty Regt lacked medicines even for minor wounds. Received no medical treatment. Regt entered villages only to procure meals. In daytime they hid in ravines or wooded areas without any fire in fear of plane attacks.

g. Other Units:
O/a 3 Feb 51, PW saw 25th Regt at KAISHON (ER 1408), strength 700 men. O/a 6 Feb 51 at OSARI (ER 1011) PW saw 10th Div Hq and saw 1 wireless in operation.

h. Morale: Low for EM and high among officers.

i. Most effective in weapons: were plane attacks and arty barrages.

4. CASUALTIES:
About 50 men were WIA or KIA by plane attack and about 50 men dropped off due to frostbites. Heard about 7 to 8 officers in the Regt were killed in the plane attack. Heard the CO, 1st Bn, Arty Regt was relieved from duty because he was suspected of trying to surrender with his entire unit.
