The 45mm AA gun was used by the North Korean Navy. Claimed to be of very late model. Not listed in D/A pamphlet No. 30-2.

b. Guns were manufactured in RUSSIA.

c. The recoil mechanism on the guns were air, spring and hydraulic operated.

d. Ammunition was marked in Russian, size and the content of gun powder either plus or minus in fraction.

e. Velocities of the shells were as follows:
85mm 750m per second
45mm 750 - 800m/second
37mm 750 - 800m/second

f. There were 19 AA guns under the PW command.

g. There were seven men per 85mm guns.

h. Duties: 1 Gun crew chief
2 Gunners
1 Ammunition loader
2 Ammunition carriers
1 Range finder

i. Guns mounted on wheels were towed by trucks. Wheel-less guns were transported on trucks.

j. Within 10 minutes, the battery was in position for firing. For permanent installations, it depended on how well they wanted to camouflage or how deep they wanted to dig in the guns.

k. Rate of fire:
85mm Depended on loading
45mm Depended on loading
37mm 120 rounds/minute
12.7mm 550 - 650 rounds/minute

l. Types of fuses:
Time, mechanical and delay fuses.

m. Maximum range of guns as follows:
85mm 13,000m
45mm 6,000m
37mm 4,000m
12.7mm 3,000m

n. AA guns could be used against ground targets, direct fire and indirect fire by changing the ammunition for purposes intended. All shells were interchangeable.

o. The gun crews were alerted when notice of A/C approach was rec’d by telephone.

p. All the guns were laid manually.

q. Firing pin gave trouble but it could be replaced in a short time.

r. PW served in the NK Navy and when his ship was damaged by UN aircraft, all the AA Guns were removed and taken to ground emplacements where PW then served as chief gunner for entire unit.
