ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 3525 23 February 1951
FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - No Number) 15 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: YUN Sam Cho
AGE: 25
RANK: Sgt
DUTY: Wireman
UNIT: 8th ROK Div, 16th Regt, 1st Bn Hq
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: Approx 3 km N of WONJU 15 Feb 51
CAPTURED BY: US ARMY
INTERROGATED BY: Pfc AKASHI

2. ASSESSMENT:
Source seems to be pretty sure of himself and spoke confidently, of actually observing enemy troops. Information seems very reliable.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
After escaping from the CCF Troops, source managed to work his way through the enemy and returning to friendly troops. He surrendered voluntarily upon seeing US Troops.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
140600 Feb 51 source was captured by CCF Troops and taken to their bivouac area located on foot of a high Mt, 4 km W of HOENSONG. He stayed there for about an hour and managed to escape when the guards were sleeping.
Climbing over a hill heading south, source arrived at TO■■■■■ (DS0647). Then taking a Mt trail leading to a small stream flowing southward into the T■■■■■-■■■ at (DS 0542). He followed this stream to a village (believed to be ■■■■ (DS0643)), where he rested from 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs 15 Feb 51.
Enroute from TONGMAK-■■■■, source observed CCF Troops resting in every available house, under trees, under brushes along the stream, or on the dark side of Mt under rocks. Source estimated a total of 3,000 men and 200 horses deployed on both side of stream.
At ■■■■ he was told by a farmer that he just got back from guiding 2000 CCF troops to a point 10-15 km SW of ■■■■ along the SUMGANG River. The farmer also stated that a large force of CCF troops were headed SE from O■■E with intention of surrounding WONJU.
About 1400 hr after leaving O■■E, source observed a small patrol of 10 men in vic of CH■■■■-NI (DS0540) dug in on top of a hill.
All men observed by source were either armed with M-1 rifles or carbines. No Arty pieces, mortars or machine-guns observed. At 1400 hr 3 km NW of WONJU source surrendered to a tank unit. He believes that the CCF Troops are still concentrated in that area because while he was there, there was no Arty of air bombardment and they seemed to be pretty confident of not being observed.
