FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0221) 15 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAIL:
PW NAME: PAK, Hong Pyo C141442 (ROKA)
AGE: 24
RANK: Pvt
DUTY: Rifleman
UNIT: 8th ROK Div, 10th Regt, 2nd Bn, 5th Co, 1st Plat.
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 150600 Feb 1951 between HOENGSONG and WONJU.

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: Source was captured during the beginning of the CCF counter-attack on HOENGSONG. He was constantly kept in captivity and because of language difficulty, no information of enemy was obtained. Information not reliable but possibly true.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
During the air attack on the CCF troops, 14 Feb 51, Source was able to escape from captivity and return to friendly troop. He was picked up by the 38th Regt and then turned over to the PWE.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Source and 80 other ROK soldiers were captured 120330 Feb 51 in Vic of DS0360 after being surrounded by an estimated strength of 2,000 CCF troops and taken to DS0359 where the CCF stayed in hiding rest of the daylight hours.
The evening of the same day, the CCF troops (Unit identification unk, strength approx 2,000 men) travelled SE, fording the KUMGYR CHON River at a broken bridge (DS1057), then headed SSE fording the KYR CHON River at DS1354. At a point 2km SSE of the KYR CHON River, they stopped because of daylight and rested.
During their movements, source observed the following weapons:
5 USS 81mm Mortars (15 rd ea)
4 60mm Mortars (Total-100 rd)
8 USS BAR
Troops were armed with either M-1 rifles, carbines or Japanese rifles with about 50 rd each.
14 Feb 51, the CCF arrived at appoint south of HOENGSONG (Location unk) where they received heavy artillery and air bombardments, inflicting heavy casualties. Source observed about 80 dead or wounded.
