The T/O & E information compiled above was until 2 Feb 51.
No casualties were known to have occurred in the 3rd Regt either through battle of illness.

e. Replacements:
Approx 20 replacements were received by the 3rd Regiment in the SINSAN-NI area, o/a 25 Nov 50.
None received since then.

f. Supplies:
While in North KOREA, food was received from the village People’s Assn where food was stockpiled for the army.
Money was allotted to the rear echelon headquarters to individual units (Bn, Regt or Div) for purchasing food.
Each soldier was usually given 6 days supply of food. 3 meals were eaten per day in insufficient amounts.
The 47th Division acquired 20,000 bags of rice while in INCHON for consumption by its troops.
The 3rd Regt had 2 months supply of rice on hand when PW deserted his unit.
No ammo stockpiles or transportation seen. Up until the time PW left his unit, no ammo had been used. The troops’ initial issues were still intact.
PW had seen requisitions for weapons by some companies to the Division. No shortage in large amounts was noted.

g. Morale:
Morale was low because most of the troops were forced into the service. A majority were ill-trained and had no battle experience. Most of the company grade officers, and officers below that were inexperienced, ill-trained, former middle school students. Their morale was very low.
PW speculated that if the 47th Div were attacked or committed to battle, 80% of the troops will either surrender or run away, as they have had no experience.
NK troops did not have much faith as to the capabilities of the CCF troops. The consensus of the troops is that the Chinese are good fighters, but they lack the equipment and arms.

h. Signal:
Communications between Div, Regt and Bn by telephones.
No communications between the 3 Regt in the Div other than runners.
The telephones presently used were civilian type.

i. Medical:
An undetermined number of eruptive typhus cases were heard of in the 3rd Regiment during Jan 51 at INCH’ON. No details were known on the medical treatment of the cases. No deaths had resulted from this illness.
No severe cases of frozen feet were noted within the Regt.

j. Psychological Warfare:
PW surrendered voluntarily.
Ever since living in N KOREA, PW was opposed to communism. PW tried to escape to S KOREA once, but was discovered and was returned home. PW tried to escape again while in the military service, but was apprehended again.
Hearing of UN units being in ANYANG-NI, PW deserted his unit and surrendered at ANYANG-NI
He had seen no leaflets.
