1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative.
Report seems fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
Conscripted into the Reserve Regt of the 7th Div 11 Sep 50 at YONGIL GUN. Received no training.
PW was placed into the 82mm Mortar Co, 3rd Bn, 2nd Regt, 12th Div Dec 50 at KANGGYE
PW stated that personnel from the Guard Co, 38th Div, 33rd Brigade and 7th Div were reorganized into the 12th Div. PW also saw15 recruits who came from the KANGGYE area.
Received no training while at the 12th Div.
While traveling from YONGIL GUN to hill 606 the following places were passed:

PW deserted his unit on 6 Feb 51 and surrendered.

b. Location and Activities of Unit:
As of 6 Feb 51, the Mortar Company was located at Hill 606, HOENGSONG area.

PW heard of II Corps in the NKA. (II&V)
V Corps: 7th, 12th & 38th Inf Div.
PW stated that there was no 38th Div at present; personnel were placed into the 12th Div.

3rd Bn: 3 Rifle Co, one HMG Co, one 82mm Mortar Co.

PW claimed that his Company was not engaged in combat.

d. Personalities:
KIM, Yong (金龍) (김용), Lt, Ex Co CO, 82mm Mortar Co, 3rd Bn, 2nd Regt, 12th Div, V Corps.

e. Supplies:
PW received 100 rd of ammo in early Jan 51.
Food was received from farmers after giving them promissory notes.

g. Morale and Battle Effectiveness:
Morale was low because they were constantly on night marches and constantly strafed by UN planes.

h. Medical:
PW claimed that there were 15 cases of sickness, type unknown (high fever and shakes) in his company. Severe cases were taken to Regt Medics.
There were 5 to 6 cases of frostbitten feet in PW company. Only iodine was applied to them. Severe cases were taken to the rear, possibly to the Regt Medics.

i. Psychological Warfare:
PW voluntarily surrendered because he was a S. Korean and wanted to return home.
PW saw UN leaflets being dropped from planes but did not have the opportunity to get and read them.
