1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was very cooperative and of average intelligence. Information obtained is considered fairly reliable. PW was wearing new type winter shoe-pack issued approx. 10 days ago.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW was conscripted into the CCF at CHILINGSHENG Apr 50. Received basic for approx 3 months at CHILING SHEN. Immediately assigned to 38th Army, 112th Div, Engr Bn. Crossed into N KOREA 21 Oct 50. Reassigned to the 335th Regt at KUJANG Nov 50. Crossed the 38th parallel o/a 2 Jan 51 and arrived at KWANGJU-GUN, CHUNG-BU-MYON PULTANG-NI o/a 7 Jan 51. Stayed at this location for approx. 20 days and rested. 1st Bn departed this location and arrived at USAN-NI CS 5544 o/a 2 Feb 51 and bivouacked for approx 6 days. No UN troops encountered during this period. At this location heard from political leader that 335th Regt was to relieve the 334th Regt 081700 Feb 51. Departed USAN-NI at 081700 Feb 51 and proceeded generally SE arriving at Hill 514 CS 560387 082200 Feb 51. At this location the 1st Bn composed of 300 men with 2 x 82mm mortars, 3 x 60mm mortars, 5 HMG and 15 LMG were deployed along Hill 514 and was told to hold this position at all cost. 9 Feb 51 2nd and 3rd Co engaged UN troops for approx. 12 hours. During this engagement the 3rd Co received 20 casualties (10 KIA, 10 WIA). Casualties of 2nd Co unk. 10 Feb 51 no UN troops encountered. 111700 Feb 51 the 3rd Co was attacked and overrun by elements of the 19th ROK Regt. During this engagement 10 KIA and 20 WIA. PW believes that the remaining elements of 1st Bn retreated N to unknown location. Present locations of Div and Regt CP unk.

b. PW Unit:
38th Army composed of 112th, 113th, and 114th Div. The 112th Div composed of 334th, 335th and 336th Regt. 3 Bn in each Regt. 3 Rifle Co and Hvy Wpn Co in each Bn.

d. Food & Ammo:
Food locally procured. Each men supplied with 2 or 3 days ration (rice). Each individual supplied with 100 rifle rd and 2 or 3 hand grenades. Picked up M-1 Rifle and Carbine ammo abandoned by UN troops enroute S.

e. Intentions:
Intention of 1st Bn was to defend Hill 514. No knowledge of present or future intentions of the 38th Army.

f. Knowledge of Other Units:
Prior to crossing 38th parallel heard from comrades from his unit that the 39th, 40th, 42nd and 50th Armies are in KOREA (location unk).

g. UN PW:
PW observed approx 50 PW (mixed) at KUJANG on Nov 50.

h. Replacements:
O/a 8 Jan 51 PW heard from political leader that CCF will reinforce their current military strength in KOREA.

i. Morale:
Due to lack of food and incessant air and arty bombardment 50 percent of troops demoralized and have no desire to fight. 3 men from the 3rd Co committed suicide at KUJANG Nov 50.

j. UN Leaflets:
PW observed UN leaflets on several occasions after crossing 38th parallel. Leaflets were never discussed among troops for fear of being reprimanded by their superior officers. No knowledge of loudspeaker broadcast.

k. Bridge Building Equipments and Supplies:
No knowledge of bridge building equipment and supplies being built up along the HAN River. All troop movements made over frozen HAN River.

l. Diseases and Sickness:
Many suffering from Ague (chills & aching joints).
