2. ASSESSMENT:
PW gave conflicting answers to various questions at times throughout the interrogation. This might have been due to his inability to comprehend fully the questions asked. He was, however, cooperative and alert during initial stage of interrogation. Towards the close of this interrogation, PW appeared very weary and appeared to be slightly suffering from the effects of his wound.
Reliability: Fair
Physical Condition: Minor bullet wound thru right arm.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
3 Aug 50 - Conscripted into NK “Volunteer” Army at SEOUL and assigned to V Corps, 38th Div, 300th Regt, 300th Bn, Mortar Co, 3rd Plat, 2nd Sqd.
12 Aug 50 - Began 20-day-cycle basic training at P’YONGYANG.
20 Oct 50 - Arrived at KANGGYE, NK, and trained for 25 days.
10 Nov 50 - 38th Div began southward move. Then 38th Div was the rear elements of V Corps and 6th and 27th Divs already departed prior to this date.
26 Jan 51 - 38th Div arrived at HOENGSONG, SK, 6th and 27th Divs were there, also.
28 Jan 51 - 1st Regt of 38th Div arrived at PAEGOL (DS 1847) where 7th Div CP was situated and personnel of 3rd Bn were reassigned on 30 Jan 51 to 1st Regt, 7th Div. It was probable that other Bn of 1st Regt 38th Div were also reassigned to 2nd and 3rd Regt of 7th Div with exceptions of officers.
28 Jan 51 - 2nd Regt of 38th Div departed westward from HOENGSONG. Destination was unk. Source was unaware of the disposition of the 3rd Regt, 38th Div after its arrival at HOENGSONG on 26 Jan 51.
030400 Feb 51 - PW’s Sqd of the HMG Co moved to the vicinity of DS 17.9 46.2 to support 1st Co, 1st Bn in guarding the ridge line.
040400 Feb 51 - 3rd Co, 1st Bn replaced 1st Co; 1st Bn at Ds 17.9-46.2
041530 Feb 51 - Source surrendered upon the advance of US troops.

PW believes that the personnel of the 38th Div, who were mainly conscripts from the former SK Volunteer Army were distributed among the remaining Divs of V Corps 28 Jan 51.

d. Intentions:
30 Jan 51, when PW was assigned to 1st Bn, 1st Regt, 7th Div, the Bn Political (cultural) officer informed the men that their Fourth Offensive would be supported by planes, tanks and Arty from Russia. Exact date of such offensive was not disclosed.

g. UN PW:
PW observed two US PW (1 white and the other a Negro Cpl) at 7th Div CF 1 Feb 51. Both wore fatigues. Appeared to be well treated and well fed.

h. Medical:
There was evidence of a contagious disease within V Corps. Troops were instructed to boil their clothes and to protect themselves from fleas and lice.
