1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW memory poor. Place names and dates were difficult for him to recall.
PW was left behind by his unit because of his bad foot (sprained ankle). PW hid in the mountain for 3 days; then came down from the mountain and was captured by Police.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Mission: Upon leaving HWACH’ON, North KOREA, PW heard that 10th Div mission was to capture TAEGU.

b. Strength of Unit:

c. Chronology
20 Mar 50 - PW conscripted at SUKCH’ON. Received about 2 months basic training in methods of laying communication wire.
7 Dec 50 - 10th Div was reorganized by conscripting villagers and stragglers in HWACH’ON area.
25 Dec 50 - 10th Div left HWACH’ON, for South.
26 Dec 50 - 10th Div crossed 38th Parallel in early morning.
29 Dec 50 - Hq of 10th Div was strafed by UN Air Force for about 30 minutes. One KIA from PW Co. PW unit resumed southward march after dark. PW unit received 14 air strikes during this period. Four WIA from Signal Bn of 10th Div.
4 Jan 51 - 27th, and 29th Regt separated from Hq 10th Div, Arty Regt and 25th Regt and took different route to South.
19 Jan 51 - PW unit arrived near UISONG (DR 7021). 10th Div CP was there. PW Co laid wire between 10th Div Hq and 25th Regt Hq. Distance between two units was about 3 Km. Signal Bn also strung wire between 10th Div Hq and 29th Regt Hq. There were no communication lines between the two Regt.
20 Jan 51 - PW unit left UISONG.
26 Jan 51 - Arrived unknown location and bivouacked 5 days. Signal Bn strung lines between 10th Div Hq and 25th Regt Hq. Also between 10th Div Hq and Arty Hq. 2th Regt CP was located approximately 2 Km West of Div CP and Arty CP was located approximately 3 KM East of Div CP (location unk).
1 Feb 51 - From this date until PW was left behind, hits unit travelled approximately 15 Km a day during night time. (Hid in the mountain during day time).
6 Feb 51 - PW was left behind by his unit because of his bad foot (sprained ankle). PW unit travelled NW.
9 Feb 51 - PW was captured by ROK Police.

d. Personalities:
Div CG - Maj Gen HEE, PANG Nam, Co CO - Lt KAN, Won Ho, 23, Plat Ldr - Jr Lt KIM, Chong Nam, 23, Sqd Ldr - Sgt LEE, Ki Dong, 21.

e. Weapons and Equipment: Signal Bn had:
2 - LMG with approx 450 rd ammo to aa.
50 - PPsh SMG with approx 250 rd ammo to ea.
100 - Russian Rifles with approx 80 rd mmo to ea rifle.
10 - Field telephones (Russian)
2 - Wirellass Transmitters (Russian)
1 - Switchboard (Russian)
About 7 Km of Communication Wire.

f. Ammo and Supply:
Ammo - No resupply from rear except what they carried.
Food - Procured from nearby villages. Eat twice daily usually.
Clothing - One sat which they wore. No resupply. 10% of PW unit wearing civilian clothing because of the shortage of uniforms.
Shelter - Usually in the hill. Village’s houses were used if they were available.

g. Other Units:
25th Regt and Arty Regt were with 10th Div Hq when PW left on 6 Feb 51. (Present location unk).

h. Morale:
Low, because of lack of food and clothing. High morale among Communists.

i. Effective Weapons:
Arty barrage was feared most. PW unit did not sustain heavy casualties from US attacks.

j. Tactics:
PW unit always travelled at night and when fire fight is necessary, they attempted to encircle the enemy.
