2. ASSESSMENT:

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
Sep 50 - Conscripted at CHANPYONG, NK, and attached to the 33rd Brig. Received no military tng.
28 Sep 50 - Entire 33rd Brig, strength 1,200, dep CHANPYONG on foot.
15 Nov 50 - The Brig arr KANGGYE. Original strength of 1,200 decreased to 400 due to air strafing and desertions.
20 Nov 50 - 33rd Brig was deactivated and its personnel were assigned to units of 12th Div. 12th Div reorganized and resupplied at KANGGYE.
25 Nov 50 - Entire 12th Div dep KANGGYE on foot. Prior to dep troops were issued winter clothing and rifles (number of ammo unk). Each man of the Mortar Co, 3rd Bn, 2nd Regt were issued 3 mortar shells.
1 Jan 51 - Arr at HIYOL RI. 3rd Bn, 2nd Regt in the vicinity of HIYOL RI immediately engaged with ROK troops, and with slight causalities, withdrew to a point 3 km N of HIYOL RI. At this time entire 12th Div also withdrew to the rear. (name of place unk) They were resupplied with ammo. The Mortar Co again received 3 mortar shells per man. Obs 11 ROK prisoners taken by the Div. Hereafter the Div marched constantly through mountain trails (place name unk).
20 Jan 51 - The Div arr at a point about 10 km N of WONJU. 3rd Bn, 2nd Regt and other elements of the Div engaged with UN troops several times in the vicinity of WONJU and withdrew each time, with causalities.
22 Jan 51 - Entire Div withdrew from the point 10 km N of WONJU to SOGUNGDA RI. According to hearsay the 3rd Bm, 2nd Regt had lost one-half their men during the engagement.
4 Feb 51 - 3rd Bn, 2nd Regt, strength 150 men (original 300) dep SOGUNGDA RI and arr at UEN NI.
5 Feb 51 - 3rd Bn dep UEN NI and headed S. While enroute the Bn contacted ROK troops and withdrew towards UIDONG. Pw deserted at this time and surrendered to ROK 8 th Div.
