FIELD REPORT (3rd DIV-IPW - 028)　2 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: CHUN Pen Li (陳本立) (CCF)
AGE: 20
RANK: Pvt
UNIT: 4th Field Army, 50th Army, 149th Div, 446th Regt, 3rd Bn, 8th Co, 1st plat, 2nd sqd.
DUTIES: Rifleman
EDUCATION: Graduate of primary school.
OCCUPATION: Student
HOME ADDRESS: SUCHUAN-SON, KEANAK-SHIEN, CHIN SHAN
DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 1 Feb 51, on Hill 297 CS 301341
INTERROGATOR: RKW

2. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
PW and six others of his sqd surrendered to UN troops because they had not eaten for three days and all the others of his 18 men platoon were either killed or wounded.

3. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in good physical condition and he seemed cooperative. However, his information is vague and he at times gave conflicting answers. PW possesses a poor sense of direction and estimation of distances.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Unit Strength:
8th Co - Original - Approx 200 (Nob 50)

3rd Bn - Original - 　″　 　700 (Nov 50)
Present - 　″ 　　200 (Jan 51)

b. Unit Location:
3rd Bn Hq: Located at west foot of Hill 297 CS 301341 in a bomb shelter in woods about 25 yd east of four farm houses.
8th Co: The 8th Co is dug in at north foot of Hill 297 CS 301341. They moved to this position about 3 days ago.
9th Co: Dug in at south foot of Hill 297 CS 301341.
7th Co: Located in 3rd Bn Hq area at west foot of Hill 297 CS 301341.
3rd Bn is the only Bn at the front at present and the other two Bn (Designation unk) are in the rear with the 446th Regt Hq which is located approx 10 km north of Hill 297 Cs 301341. The 3rd Bn moved up to its present position about four nights ago. There were no other units there before them.
446th Regt Hq: This Hq is located in a cave CS 3044 (which took one squad about one week to dig) in the outskirts of a large village about 10 km to the north of Hill 297 CS 301341. The entrance to the cave faces a road and the cave itself is capable of housing about 120 men.

c. Weapons:
HMG - (Maxim M1931 with tripod) - six per Bn
LMG - (Canadian make) - six per Co
60mm mortars - two per Co
82mm mortars - three per Regt
Howitzer (Type unk but approx 105mm) - Two per Regt (Last seen with Regt Hq about two weeks ago)
PW claims UN night artillery bombardment is not too accurate.
About 7 or 8 men from PW regt have been killed by UN night artillery bombardment.

d. Code Names:
The code name for the 149th Div:
2nd Bn (大隊) 446th Regt 2nd Co (二中隊), 3rd Bn 7th Unit (七隊)
