ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 3356　14 February 1951

FIELD REPORT (528 MISDI - 0177)　4 February 1951

PW appeared to be in fair physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was of average intelligence and very cooperative. Information obtained is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.

I NK Corps composed of the 17th Mechanized Div, 47th Inf Div, 8th Inf Div, Guard Bn, Engr Const Bn, Communications Bn and a Recon Bn.

Recon Bn composed of 2 Recon Co, Transportation Plat, and a Communications Plat. Each Recon Co is composed of 3 Recon Plat, with 3 Sqd in each Plat. Communications Plat composed of 3 Sqd. Transportation Plat composed of 3 Sqd.

PW unit suffered one KIA by airstrike and three by small arm fire.

PW heard 30 Jan 51 that the mission of the 8th Div was to secure OSAN (CS2913) by driving the UN forces out and after completion of mission they were to go to SEOUL.

The I NK Corps Hq was in SEOUL (exact location unk) as of 30 Jan 51. 8th Div CP located vic SIHUNG-NI (CS1546) as of 1 Feb 51. 17th Mech Div CP located in SEOUL (exact location unk) as of 31 Jan 51.

PW was born and raised in MANCHURIA and volunteered for the CCF Peoples Security Unit Hq on 1 Mar 51, at HARBIN, MANCHURIA. On 4 Aug 51, PW was reassigned to the NKA 17th Div, 33rd Regt SMG Co in PYONGYANG. O/a 1 Sep 50, PW unit arrived vic ANDONG (DR7546). In Nov 50, PW unit withdrew to MANP'OJIN (BA7359) at which time the SMG Co was reassigned to the 1st NK Corps, Recon Bn. PW unit crossed the frozen HAN River on foot (exact location unk) o/a 11 Jan 51. O/a 13 Jan 51, PW unit arrived at OSAN CS2913 and stayed there for approx 2 days. The unit then withdrew to ANYANG CS1637 where PW was captured by elements of the 15th ROK Regt on 2 Feb 51.

PW stated that the morale of his unit is high because the majority of the men believe that they are winning the war.

Source of food unk. They are fed three times per day. Ammo was received in P'YONGYANG. PW had approx 30 rd of ammo for his PPSH SMG. PW had no knowledge of additional ammo being issued after their unit left P'YONGYANG.

PW observed seven US PW and twelve ROK PW in SEOUL on 31 Jan 51.

PW Plat laid mines along the MSR at the following locations:

(1) Vic CS1343 - 24 AT mines

(2) Vic CS1738 - 9 AT mines

(3) Vic CS1646 - 9 AT mines

PW did not receive any immunization shots. There were no typhus cases in PW unit; however, PW heard that typhus was prevalent in other units.

PW unit crossed the frozen HAN River on foot (exact location unk) o/a 11 Jan 51. No bridging equipment was observed by PW.

His unit was subjected to night bombing once. (Location unk) No casualties were suffered.

Unit had many maps however, he has no knowledge of the source.
