FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0107) 5 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: PAK He Sun (23) Pvt
DUTY: Rifleman

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and information probably true.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW deserted his unit on 7 Jan 51 at INJE, NK. PW was returning home to YOJU, SK when he was captured by the UN Forces.
12th Div reached INJE on 6 Jan 51 and PW was told by his Co CO that the Div was to rest there for 15 days before proceeding on to KANNUNG area.
While enroute home to YOJU 2 Feb 51, he observed 4 mortars (size u/k) camouflaged with straw located at the southern entrance of the KUCHANG-NI village (CS9245). These mortars were guarded by 4 CCF. Also observed 100 horses grazing around the outskirts of this village.
On the same day he observed approx 200 CCF troops pulling sleds loaded with grain from YANGDONG (CS9042) toward the KOCHANG-NI village. Of the 200 CCF troops, PW only observed about 30 armed with rifles.

b. Unit Organization and Strength:
PW heard from the Plat Ldr that the estimated strength of the 12th Div was 6,000 and that the Div consists of the 6th Regt, 7th Regt and the 8th Regt.
Estimated strength of his co was 230, armed with 1 x 72mm Soviet mort (40 rd), 2 HMG (approx 400 rd of ammo ea), 3 LMG (3 magazines ea) and all troops were armed with Soviet rifles (150 rd of ammo ea).
1st Co of his Bn had approx 200 troops all armed with SMG (3 magazines ea).

c. Clothing:
All troops of the 12th Div had winter uniforms.

d. Food:
Food was insufficient and troops ate only twice a day.

e. Medical:
PW did not observe or hear of any contagious diseases; however, 20 men of his Co were suffering from severe frost-bite.

f. Morale:
Morale of troops was low due to the daily air attack by the UN air force.
