FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0100) 2 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: PAK Chi Sun (22), Pvt
DUTY: Rifleman
UNIT: 12th Div, 1st Regt, 1st Bn, 2nd Co
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 31 Jan 51 at 8 km S of NUNMANG-NI (CS9528)
INTERROGATOR: PFC AKASHI

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and willing to answer all questions asked. Information obtained seems reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
O/a 5 Jan 51 12th Div with an estimated strength of 10,000 men arrived in vic of HOENGSONG where they halted, to take a Regt period in preparation for the big general attack starting the 4th phase of offensive battle against the UN Forces.
1st Regt was located in MULKOL (phonetic) 8 km SW of HOENGSONG along the TWINNAM-MUL river) with the 2nd Regt located 16 km N of 1st Regt, 3rd Regt located 16 km N of 2nd Regt and the Arty Regt located 16 km N of the 3rd Regt.
28 Jan 51 PW deserted his unit.
During the period of 5 Jan 51 to 28 Jan 51, the troops received political training and given propaganda lectures. They were told that arms and ammo were coming and that fresh replacement were enroute.

b. Weapons:
All armed with either rifles (150 rd), M-1 Rifles (150 rrd), carbines (150 rd), PPSH SMG (500 rd), PPS SMG (500 rrd), 3 LMG per plat (ammo u/k), 12 HMG per Bn (2 per Co, 6 Bn HMG Co), 12 120mm mortars (Arty Regt), 18 82mm Mort per Regt (6 per Bn - 6 Regt Arty Bn), and 2 Anti-tank rifle - Anti-tank Plat (1 per Bn).
PW heard that 7 or 8 76mm field guns were received by the Arty Regt o/a 18 Jan 51.

c. Morale:
Low, because of heavy air attack.

d. Clothing:
All issued cotton padded winter uniforms.

e. Food:
Sufficient - confiscated from village.
