2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was wounded in right arm. PW was cooperative, but of below average intelligence. Information obtained is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
PW volunteered for CNA 15 Aug 48 at HUNAN-SHENG(河南省). Served for approx 1 your until captured by CCF at SZECHWAN(四川) Jan 50. Immediately after capture PW was integrated into 167th Div. Since 167th Div was composed of former Nationalist soldiers, it was given Communist indoctrination for 8 months, at HUPEI(湖平). PW remained at HUPEI until Oct 50, at which time Div departed for ANTUNG by train, arriving there late Oct 50. Prior to departure 167th Div was redesignated as 150th Div. At ANTUNG, unit was again redesignated as 57th Unit of 50th Army, 3rd Bn, 2nd Co, 1st Volunteer Unit, 3rd Combat Unit, 3rd Plat, 9th Sqd. 57th Unit crossed YALU River Nov 50 by train, arriving PAENGMA (XE 3336) via ANTUNG and SINUIJU. From PAENGMA unit travelled on foot and at night through mountain trails, arriving SEOUL 11 Jan 51. On same day, 57th Unit departed SEOUL on foot and headed south, arriving at u/k village 17 Jan 51. The following day unit received arty fire and was disorganized. Following arty fire, unit was engaged in a s/a fire fight. While attempting to escape, PW was wounded and captured by elements of the 3rd Div.

b. Unit Organization and Strength
150th Div consisted of three Regt. The 449th Regt consisted of three volunteer Bn. The 1st Volunteer Bn consisted of 3 Rifle Co and HMG Co. The 3rd Rifle Co consisted of 3 Plat and 60mm Mortar Sqd.

c. Equipment
There were 3x60mm mortars in each Mortar Sqd; four HMG in each HMG Co; and 6 LMG in each Rifle Co. Personnel were armed with Japanese and Chinese rifles. Each men was issued 4 hand grenades.

d. Communication
Communication within unit was by telephone and runners.

e. Armor and Artillery.
Approx 10 arty pieces were seen by PW at SEOUL night of 11 Jan 51.

f. Morale and Propaganda
Morale of unit low. Many troops have read or heard of UN surrender leaflets but were afraid to talk about them among themselves. PW heard about the leaflets on 16 Jan 51 and since then had thought of desertion and surrender.

g. Food and Ammo Supplies
Food supplies transported by horse carts from the rear. Troops fed twice a day. Ea man issued 80 rd of ammo prior to crossing YALU River. No additional ammo has been received since then.

h. Replacements.
No replacements received since entering KOREA.

i. Foreign Technicians
The 1st and 2nd Co each had one Korean interpreter.
