4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
II Corps Hq (Rear) 5 Feb 551 was loc at KAPCHON MYON (DS3755). II Corps Hq (Rear), together with Corps food and clothing supply units, was loc at base of mountain 7.5km northeast of TUNNAE MYON (DS3148). Corps Hq consisted of approx ten farm houses.
The Rear Hq Guard Co, was loc approx 2km east of Corps Hq. The Guard Co occupied approx ten farm houses.
The position of Corps Hq had not been discovered by UN aircraft up to 5 Feb 51. 28 Jan 51, a UN aircraft reconnoitered area but failed to detect the troop movements.
II Corps Hq (Forward), 4 Feb 51, was loc approx 4km due east of TUNNAE MYON (DS3148). PW heard that this Hq was to move north.
II Corps food supply, consisting of approx 6,000 straw sacks of rice, in TUNNAE MYON. Rice was in ditches on both sides of highway and at foot of the hills loc in the northern sector of TUNNAE MYON. Bomb craters were also used for storage of rice.
The rice was in pile of 50 to 300 sacks each.

NOTE: II Corps Hq (Forward) 5 Feb 51, (Hearsay) was preparing was move.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted 10 Dec 49 at P’YONGYANG with 500 others and assigned to Road Control Bn (similar to traffic MP) stationed in outskirts of P’YONGYANG.
Between 10 Dec 49 to 10 May 50, PW received traffic control and road repair training. 15 May 50, PW and 8 others were sent to KUMHWA (CT6538) on TDY to direct military traffic.
O/a 20 Jun 50, PW Co travelled to CHUNCHON (CS8893), by truck. Remaining at CHUNCHON for about 5 days, the Co was ordered to KYONGANG NI (CS4542). From KYONGANG NI, the Co returned to CHUNCHON, Aug 50.
Aug 50, Co passed through HONGCHON (DS0171), WONJU (DS1734), TANYANG (DR3988), and arr ANDONG (DR7646) during latter part Aug 50.
At ANDONG, PW unit was redesignated as II Corps Hq (Rear) Guard Co.
O/a 20 Sep 50, II Corps Hq (Rear) retreated north, passing through TANGYANG, HONGCHON, HWACHON, HUMHWA, PYONGANG (CT5133), ICHON (CT1663), SINGYE (BT8564), YULI (BU6216) and arr CHONGHWA (BU2214) Oct 50.
II Corps Hq (Rear), upon arr, reorganized, then dep for KOKSAN (BT9795), via mountain trails. At KOKSAN Corps Hq (Rear) came in contact with remaining front line elements of II Corps. After reorganization in Oct 50, PW unit moved into PYONGANG. From PYONGANG, II Corps Hq (Rear) marched south via KUMHWA, HWACHON, YANGGU (DT1521), HONGCHON, HOENGSONG, and arr present loc 4km northeast of TINNAE NYON (DS3148), o/a 10 Jan 51.
5 Feb 51, PW and 4 others were dispatched to inspect road conditions leading to HOENGSONG.
PW, while inspecting road extending southwest from YUDONG NI (DS5924) to HOENGSONG, was captured by ROK patrols at SET’O (DS6637).

7. FOOD, AMMO, AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
SUPPLY ROUTE:
When PW was dispatched to check road conditions between YUDONG NI (DS5924), and HOENGSONG, he was told by his CO that truck-transported supplies were expected to arrive at II Corps Hq (Rear) for distribution to frontline troops in near future.
PW heard that the route of supply from P’YONGANG, will pass through YULI (BU6216), SINGYE (BT8564), SIBYON NI (BT8564), PYONGANG (CT5153), HWACHON (CT8618), CHUNCHOI (CS8893), HONGCHON, YUDONG NI (DS5924) to II Corps Hq (Rear), and, from WONSAN (CU6535), supplies will go through SINGOSAN (CU6103) and PYONGANG.
PW also heard that supplies will consist chiefly of clothing, white sheet material and food.

8. ARMOR, ARTILLERY AND AIRCRAFT:
There are no tanks and SP guns with II Corps or any other NKA Corps.
Enroute to SOUTH KOREA, PW frequently saw US aircraft bomb and strafe tanks, SP Guns and trucks abandoned along the road side and not in use since Sep 50 retreat.

9. SIGNAL:
The only type of communication observed with II Corps Hq (Rear) was telephones. Communication between forward and rear was made by officer courier.

10. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
Morale and battle effectiveness of II Corps Hq (Rear) was very low as compared to the date of reorganization (Oct 50). Reasons for low morale were:
a. Failure of supplies to reach the unit
b. Lack of food and clothing
c. Fear of air attacks
d. Typhus

11. MEDICALS:
Beginning 10 Jan 51, the II Corps Hq (Rear) was hit by typhus. As of 5 Feb 51, ten men in the Guard Co were stricken with typhus.
No immunizations.
No frostbite and frozen feet cases were observed in the II Corps Hq (Rear).

12. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
