3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
11 Sep 50: Conscripted into the CCF 4th Field Army at CHIUTAI-HSIEN (九台縣), MANCHURIA.
11 Sep 50-15 Oct 50: Received basic training at CHILIN(吉林), MANCHURIA. Attached to the mess sqd, Security Co, 442nd Regt, 148th Div, 50th Army.
15 Oct 50: 50th Army departed CHILIN-SHENG (吉林省), MANCHURIA by rail (with 30,000 men).
17 Oct 50: Arrived YALU River and crossed MANCHURIA-KOREA border at CHIAN (輯安), MANCHURIA.
18 Oct 50-19 Oct 50: Unit of the 50th Army given code names. 148th Div redesignated 1st Bn.
17 Nov 50: Arrived SINANJU (新安州), KOREA after marching from MANCHURIA-KOREA border. 148th Div stayed one night there while the 149th and 150th Div kept on moving.
19 Nov 50-3 Jan 50: 148th Div, while marching southward at night travelled during the night through the mountains. At times, during the march, rested 4-5days in the mountains. Reached Vic south of SUWON (水原).
4 Jan 50: Captured by ROK Forces approx 8km south of SUWON (水原).

c. Unit History:
148th Div was originally organized in MANCHURIA, composed of former Chinese Nationalist troops (30%) and newly conscripted Chinese living in MANCHURIA. It consisted of 142nd, 143rd, 144th Regt, Medical Unit, Arty Bn and Sig Co. Total strength a little over 10,000 men. Oct 50, the 148th Div, together with the 149th Div and the 150th Div, went by rail to the Manchurian-Korean border as part of the 50th Army at CHIAN (輯安). The 50th Army crossed the border on 17 Oct 50, and about a month later had marched down to the town of SINGANJU (新安州), KOREA. There the 149th and 150th Div separated from the 148th Div. 148th Div engaged ROK Forces once. Sickness accounted for 400 of the 900 casualties of the 442nd Regt. As of 4 Jan 51, the 148th Div had not regrouped nor reorganized.

g. Disposition:
When last observed, on or about 4 Jan 51, the 442nd Regt was approx 8km south of SUWON (水原) defending a hill. Disposition of 443rd Regt, 444th Regt and Arty Bn unknown.

h. Morale:
148th Div morale low because of constant air attacks and cold weather.

i. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
Bn aid stations were located approx 6 miles behind the lines. Light wounds were treated there, while the seriously wounded were evacuated to division medical unit. If hospitalization was necessary the patient was transferred to the field hospital unit attached to 50th Army. Each Regt had a labor battalion of 300 men (Manchurians). Besides digging defense positions, the labor battalion was also responsible for the evacuation of the wounded and dead to rear areas. These men wore no uniforms and were guarded at all times. Div medical unit was also located approx. 6 miles behind the lines.

j. Supply:
Each man carried three days ration and 100 rounds of ammunition for small arms. Arty shells were transported by horse-drawn carts during the night. Ammo deports believed located approx 2 miles to the rear of the Arty positions.

k. Weapons Feared Most:

(3) Fragmentation bomb
