2. ASSESSMENT:
Fairly cooperative, lacked information. Reliability, fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
1 Sep 50: Conscripted into the 4th Field Army at CHANGCHUN (■長春), MANCHURIA, and assigned to a Guard Co, Mess Sqd.
2 Sep 50: Guard Co moved to CHILIN-SHENG (吉林省), MANCHURIA.
Sep 50: 148th Div organized at CHILIN-SHENG. After a month’s basic training, unit left by rail for CHIAN (輯字) on the Manchurian - Korean border.
Oct 50: 12th Regt, 148 Div left CHIAN on foot for SUWON. Regt of the Div left at 1day intervals.
Oct 50: 3 days after leaving CHIAN, the 12th Regt was attacked from the air and suffered a loss of 3 men. After that, PW unit was attacked 3 or 4 times nightly for 2 months until arriving at SUWON.
2 or 3 Jan 51: PW unit arrived SUWON. Total losses amounted to 40 some odd men. Losses of weapons unknown.
3 or 4 Jan 51: Captured in the vic of SUWON by the ROK Army.

b. Weapons of the 12th Regt:
Rifles:
Model 99, 79 and 77 of Japanese and Chinese makes. US Carbines. Submachine guns - many Chinese made, but type unk.
Mortars:
Two or three 82mm mortars and four to five 60mm mortars of Chinese make.
HMG:
5 or 6 type unknown.
Heavy arty equipment observed once, but type unk. Drawn by horse.
No CCF tanks observed.

c. Unit History:
The 148th Div was originally organized o/a 4 Sep 50 in CHILIN-SHENG, MANCHURIA. Consisted of the 12th, 13th and 14th Regt.

d. Personalities:
PAE, (FNU)(白), little over 40, CG, 148th Div.
SHIH, Tzu Ho (士子和), 42 Regt CO, 12th Regt.
YANG, Shou Hsin (陽■信), 27, Co CO, Guard Co.

e. Communication:
Co and below - runners

Regt - telephones (number unk)
Div - radio and telephones

f. Morale: (12th Regt)
The morale among the old timers (mostly volunteers) was high; however, the morale of the newly conscripted was low due to inexperience.

g. Replacement:
No replacements, since organized in Sep 56.

h. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
The 12th Regt had just arrived in SUWON when PW was captured, therefore, information on aid stations or hospitals is unavailable; however, those who received light wounds from air attack, marched with the unit, while the seriously wounded were left behind to be picked up by the Med Bn which followed about 3km behind.

i. Supply:
While traveling, each man carried about 3 to 4 days ration and about 100 rd. Most of the ammo was transported on horse drawn carts.

j. Pay of Personnel:
Korean currency. Pvt - Sgt: 400 Won per month
W/Officer - 2nd Lt: 600 Won per month

k. Other Units:
Heard that the 38th Army was at SUWON over 10 days earlier, before the arrival of the 50th Army’s 12th Regt.
