2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and talked freely. Information seemed very unreliable in view of his poor memory and lack of education.

112th Div: 334th, 335th, and 336th Rifle Regt.
335th Regt: 3 Rifle Bn.

3rd Co: 3 Rifle Plat.
3rd Plat: 3 Rifle Sqd. Rifle Sqd consisted of 10 men.

4. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW conscripted into the CCF at TUNGPEI (東北) LIANGWANG SHENG (遼陽省) Aug 50. Prior to joining the CCP, PW was with the CNA (71st Army, 88th Div, 24th Regt, 2nd Bn, 9th Co, 2nd Plat, 6th Sqd).
Assigned to the 4th Field Army, 38th Army, 112th Div, 335th Regt, 1st Bn, 3rd Co, 3rd Plat, 9th Sqd at ANTUNG SHEN (安東省) Aug 50.
Aug 50, 335th Regt travelled to TIEHLING (鐵嶺) arriving Sep 50.
In the latter part of Oct 50, 335th Regt departed for KOREA from TEIH-LING and crossed the YALU River from TUNG-HWA (通化) Nov 50.
After entering KOREA, 335th Regt marched during nights, passing mountain roads, slept in mountains and villages, and arrived at mountain 27 Jan 51.
During a three day battle, PW deserted 3rd Company and surrendered to UN troops 30 Jan 51.

5. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
Food was confiscated from farmers and deserted villages.
Before crossing the 38th Parallel, 335th Regt received an unknown amount of smell arms ammo.

6. SIGNAL:
A field telephone was used between Bn and Regt HQ.
Field telephones and wireless were used above the Regt level.

7. MORALE:
Morale was low due to the lack of weapons and inadequate clothing and food.

8. MEDICAL:
About 50% of the troops in PW Co were suffering from frostbite and frozen feet.

9. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. PW surrendered voluntarily because he deserted from his unit.
b. Did you see any UN leaflets or hear UN loudspeaker broadcasts?
a. Yes, PW saw UN leaflets.
c. Can you describe what they said?
a. No, PW could not read it.
d. What was your reaction to them?
a. It influenced him to become a prisoner of war.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts? What did they say or do?
a. Many were saying that they would desert from their unit if an opportunity presented itself.
